Dante
I left her this morning reluctantly to take care of some business in town. If it wasn't urgent, I would've stayed there with her.
The mornings we spent together became my favorite part of the day. I didn't mind waking up early every day to spend time with her. She would wake up at 7:30 every day like clockwork, and at 7:45 I would knock on her door to help her get downstairs. I knew she could do it herself. She was getting stronger every day, but I still felt more at peace when I was beside her, just in case. Plus, she didn't seem to mind me hovering around her even though one of the doctors gave her a cane and she didn't need to hold on to me anymore while going down the stairs.
I didn't like the idea at first. The cane maybe gave her support, but it wasn't going to catch her in case she slipped and lost her balance. That's what I was for. Or at least that's what I've been telling myself just to find an excuse to be around her.
She rolled her eyes when she saw me flinch at her every move and told me she was much more stable than she might look. I just smiled and nodded, but wasn't really convinced. Despite her trying to reassure me, I was still prepared to react if she were to accidentally stumble and lose her balance.
I actually kind of liked early summer mornings. The sun got up pretty early, and while we had our coffee and breakfast outside, the temperature was still comfortable. Also, the air wasn't as humid.
Zeus and Adonis also appreciated our mornings together. They would wait for us in front of the glass doors of the house and start jumping up and down when they would see us approaching them. I think they were more excited to see her than me, but I didn't mind. We all had fun together.
Today I had to leave. I've been notified there was a breach in one of our warehouses. Several of my people were killed, and also some weapons got stolen. Since we caught Isabella, things were pretty quiet around here, and let's just say I was a little preoccupied with bringing a certain woman back to health to keep an eye on the warehouses too.
Of course, I had people in charge of surveillance, but yet again I learned that if you wanted something to be done right, you had to do it yourself and not lean on other people.
I got Marco on it immediately to try and find out who would dare make a move on my warehouse. I took Carlo and Lorenzo with me to assess the damage. The three of them were the only ones I knew I could trust to get the job done. And Camilla of course, but I didn't think it necessary to bother her with this.
When we got there, one of my warehouse guards waited in front of the entrance, trembling when he saw my black Escalade approaching rapidly and coming to a halt right in front of him.
He should be scared. His job was to protect the warehouse and his fellow guards, yet somehow he succeeded in neither one of those things.
I get out of the car and slam the door shut at the same time Carlo and Lorenzo pull up behind me. Walking towards the trembling man, I button my suit jacket and adjust my sleeves.
"What the fuck happened?"
"Don, I'm so s-sorry. I have no idea, it all happened so fast. I was gone for just a few minutes and when I got b-back...," the man stutters and starts shaking before I hold my hand up, gesturing for him to stop talking. I don't know what annoys me more, their incompetence, or this pathetic scene in front of me.
The terrified pathetic guard standing before me closes his mouth, but his shoulders continue to shake uncontrollably. I debate whether or not to shoot him right now. In the end, I decide against it. I am already lacking people, and somebody would have to clean up the mess. We had enough messes to clean up without adding another body to it.
