Chapter 12: Youth's Sword Tournament (part 3)

"Y/N... Y/N!", a voice shouts, waking you up.

Your eyes slowly open. As you turn over, you see Kuro standing by the window.

"Finally awake, huh?", Kuro says as he opens the curtains. "You sleep like a log, you know that?"

You yawn as your rub your eyes; the light from the sun was blinding. You then stand up and stretch for a while.

"Ahh", you say, "that was a good sl-"

Kuro throws a pillow at your face, stopping you from finishing your sentence.

"Can't you see the time?", Kuro asks. "We're gonna be late if you don't hurry up!"

"Late?", you ask in confusion. "For what?"

"The tournament!", Kuro shouts back in frustration.

You look at the clock then begin to come to your senses. It was already 11:40, and you had to be at the venue by noon.

"Ah crap!", you say. "I'll just quickly take a shower then-"

"There's no time for that!", Kuro interrupts. "Just brush your teeth and get changed. We're leaving in 10 minutes!"

"Alright then", you say with a sigh.

...

You quickly brush your teeth and get dressed into your usual attire before leaving the hotel with Kuro.

It is now 11:51. You and Kuro are frantically running to the venue in hopes of not being late.

...

It is now 12:01 - you and Kuro arrive at venue just in time, and luckily for you, they haven't started the tournament yet. The spectator seats, however, were already filled with people who were eager to watch some fights.

"It looks like... we made it... in time", Kuro says, breathing heavily.

"Yeah", you reply.

Haru walks up to the two of you with a creepy look on his face.

"I believe I told everyone to make it here by noon", he says.

"We're very sorry", you reply. "Kuro didn't wake up on time, so as a result, we were late."

Kuro looks at you with an angry expression.

"Hey!", he shouts. "That never ha-"

"I see", Haru interrupts. "I guess it's fine then. You guys were only a minute late."

Haru walks away and makes his way back to the front of the crowd of participants.

"The second part of the tournament will begin shortly", Haru says to the crowd. "But before we start, I will have you all pick out random numbers (1-24) on a card out of a box. This will determine your pairings and position in the tournament. It will be a single elimination tournament, where the loser of a match is eliminated, and the winner advances on to the next round to fight another match. That will continue until only 1 participant remains. That person will be deemed the victor of the tournament, and recognised as the 57th Youth's Sword Tournament winner. Are we clear?"

Silence dawns the venue as everyone tries to absorb the information relayed.

"Well then", Haru says, "let's begin, shall we."
