Mia

Horror.
My blood was coating his hands.
" Mia baby, you have been shot " Alessandro said as Leo and Rodrigo came rushing down to help.
" Mia when did this happen?" Leo asked.
" I managed to escape but when I was running out Paul, was shooting I didn't realise he had got me. I ran all the way here. It probably took half an hour." I say as I try and catch my breath from the contractions and gunshot pain.
It was all getting too much.
I started to scream in pain.
Alessandro looked horrified.
He lifted me up and carried me into the back of the car as he sat next to me . I laid down in his lap while Leo got in the drivers seat.

Leo chucked into the backseat some bandages so I got to work and lifted up her dress and started dressing the wound the best I could.
I just needed to stop the bleeding.
And fast.

Within a few minutes I managed to wrap the bandage.
" you're doing so well Mia. Just breathe. " I told her as I held her hand and stroked her head .
She was screaming.
Crying.
There is nothing worse than seeing the one you love in unbearable pain.
" GET OUT THE FUCKING WAY" Leo shouted at the cars as he sped down the roads.
" come on baby" I told her as she gripped my hand tightly.
It felt like she was going to squeeze out all the blood.
But I didn't mind.
I would do anything to take away the pain for her.

Mia
" someone help" Alessandro screamed as he and Leo supported me as we walked through the hospital doors.
" it's my girl, she been shot and she's in labour " he told them as lots of hospital staff came running towards us.
Around 4 people lifted me up onto a bed and I was wheeled straight into a hospital room.
" I'll stop the bleeding and then the babies will be the priority " a nurse told us as they ran around to my side and lifted my top to dress the wound.
She changed over the dressing and administered pain relief to me.
" okay, I need you to push " the nurse said.
I took alessandro's hand as he stood right by my side.

Alessandro
" well done baby. Now again" I told her as she pushed.
" you've got this" I told her as I wiped the sweat off her forehead with a cold flannel.
" I can't " Mia screamed.
" I know you can baby. I know it's hard. But just think what the outcome will be. Two beautiful babies. I know you can do this" I told her

I didn't like her doubting herself.
I knew she could do this.
She is way stronger than she thinks.

" I can see the head. Just two more pushes. "
I looked down.
I deeply regretted that.
Mia pushed.
And pushed.
Until the sound of crying filled the room.
" well done. Congratulations it's a girl" the nurse said as she checked over the baby quickly and gave her to Mia. I looked down at Mia holding out baby.
Wow.
There are so many moments in life when you're proud.
Proud of a parent.
Proud of yourself.
Proud of a best friend.
But this moment tops them all.
Seeing my girl holding our very own little girl took my breath away.
My vision started to become blurry and I quickly wiped away the tear.
She was perfect.
More than I could ever ask for.

" now the next " the nurse said as she took the baby off Mia.
Mia started to push again.
With my hand in hers.
She did it.
Again the sound of crying filled the room.
" it's another girl. Congratulations you two" the nurse said as she checked the baby and gave her to Mia. The nurse came over to me and gave me the first baby.
This moment is something I will treasure forever.
Something so perfect.
The nurse left leaving us on our own to enjoy the moment.
" I'm so proud of you " I told Mia as I kissed her forehead.
Tears were streaming down her face.
I wiped them away with my thumb and did the same for myself.
" I did it Alessandro. I did it " she told me in disbelief.
" I know baby. I knew you could" I told her as I kissed her again.

" what shall we name them?" I asked.
" Hailey and Kayleigh " Mia told me as she looked at me with glistening eyes.
" perfect" I told her as I smiled down at our babies.
Our very own babies.
Hailey was the oldest. By 5 minutes.
Something I know would be the excuse to many things in the years to come.

We swapped over.
I gave Hailey to Mia and Mia gave me Kayleigh.
Kayleigh had bright blue eyes while Hailey had bright green eyes.
Perfect.
Simply perfect.
" I love you " Mia told me as she kissed me.
It was as if I was trying to kiss away her pain.
I kissed her like the world was going to end.
Little did I know my world really was going to end.
