Newts POV

It had been a normal day in the glade, I had been working in the fields. I was surprisingly excited because the glade was due to a new greenie.

Thomas had come up a month ago and gotten in trouble on the first day. I hope this greenie is less chaotic, although something in my heart told me he wasn't going to be.

It had been a long day, and the greenie alarm still hadn't gone off. Everyone was losing hope that they would come today.

We've had a few late and early greenies, so it wasn't that uncommon, but it really got me down. It was my turn to go into the box and get the greenie out.

When we welcome a greenie, we only get one person in their peripheral vision. It seems to make them calmer, which is understandable.

Opening your eyes to see a bunch of gladers staring down straight at you would probably be a bit terrifying.

I was going to be that one person, I was really excited. I had done it before, but it still feels special.

Minho and Thomas came back from their daily run, surprised not to see a greenie. The late greenie seemed to get Minho chirped up.

He doesn't usually get to see the greenie come up, and Thomas was obviously already really exited, he wasn't gonna be the greenie anymore.

Almost all of us had came to the conclusion that the greenie would come up tommorrow and headed to bed, I was about to hit the hay too as we only had about 2-3 hours left of sunlight and our days were already messed up.

The sun rises and sets at strange times, not coralating with the time at all.

But then an all too familiar alarm echoed around the glade,

The Greenie Alarm

I hopped and chucked on my shoes whilst running toward the box. Despite my limp, my excitement made me almost catch up to the sprinting Thomas.

You would think that greenies would become 'not a big deal' seen as they happen every month, but that's the thing. They are the peak of everyone's month.

A few of us don't get too exited anymore like Alby, he's been here longer than all the boys here, he's seen most things the box has sent up but he still always shows up to give the greenie a tour.

Everyone quickly huddled around the box, making sure that they were far enough away that they couldn't see the greenie. Everyone pulled open the box, and I hopped down. The whole box seemed to shake under my weight, but then I looked at the boy.

"What is it," I heard Alby shout from behind me,

I guess I was being too quiet. But my jaw gave way at the sight in front of me. It was something i had never seen in my whole time in the glade.
It wasn't a boy... it was a girl.

"It's a girl," I said with obvious shock.
And with that, all havoc went loose. Questions were thrown at me from all directions, and people started shoving and crowding around the box. Despite the 'only one person in their vision' rule.

Alby shouted at everyone to be quiet, and everyone seemed to calm down.

The girl then looked straight at me with wide eyes, quickly raising a machete. She seemed to be as surprised as everyone else at this staring wide-eyed at the weapon she was holding. But quickly stiffened her gaze.

"Get out of there Newt, she's gonna kill you!" I heard a boy shout down, But I didn't do what the boy had asked.

I know what it's like to be in her position. We all do. She's just scared. "Love, I know you're scared, but I'm gonna need you to put the machete down," She seemed shocked at something. Maybe she didn't think I would say that.
