It's been 10 hours since Elizabeth Stark died and Bucky hasn't left the room her body was in. Steve had finally got him to change out of his suit and eat- that was 5 hours ago.

"I need to take her into surgery," A female doctor came into the room, it was 2 am and Bucky was the only one up. "It will only be a few hours, get some rest Sergeant Barnes."

He had no choice. He didn't move but the brunette pushed the bed out of the room. So, he made his way to the couch and laid down.

"Hi." A smile spread across her face at the sight of her best friend, Natasha. "What happened?"

"Well," The redhead began and sat next to Liz on the hospital bed where she was moved to this morning. "We think it was a clone of Tony who hurt you. Bucky found you but-"

Her eyebrows curled. "Bucky?"

Natasha saw the confusion in Elizabeth's face but tried to hide it. She quickly turned to the only other person in the room- Bruce. "Bruce."

"That's nothing we could do about it." His voice was firm but filled with regret.

"What do you mean? Nothing." She stood up and rushed over to Bruce. "Bucky will be broken if Elizabeth doesn't remember him."

"Natasha?" She spun around when she was summoned. "Why can't I remember who he is?"

"Why can't you remember who?" The blonde leaned against the doorway- arms cross with a wide smile on his face, for now.

Elizabeth looked down at her hands and started to fidget. "Bucky."

And then he entered. Steve's arms were now to his side, his body tense. Bucky stood there with dark eyes- he hasn't slept over 3 hours. He was pale due to the lack of food and fluids but his eyes lit up the room.

The brunette rushed over and wrapped his arms around Elizabeth so tight he never wanted to let go and to be honest, neither did Elizabeth. "I'm so sorry, doll." He whispered in her ear. She eyed the team members in the group but she couldn't help but hug Bucky back. Although Liz has no recollection of this man, she knew he was important to her.

--

"I don't remember him, Natasha. I remember you and- and Steve and everyone else. Not Him." Elizabeth started to panic in her room next to Natasha. "Why?"

Natasha told her hand to calm Elizabeth down and it worked in a single touch. "His name is Bucky."

"Yea," The muscular man leaned in the doorway, arms crossed, "that is my name."

"I didn't know." Her voice was low, soft, filled with fear. Bucky barely even heard her. "I don't remember you." She'd finally meet his steel eyes. They were gorgeous. Familiar. But far.

Bucky let out a nervous chuckle. "What?"

"I'll let you guys talk." Natasha left.

"I guess whatever Tony did to me made me forget you. I remember everything, I haven't lost time but I guess you're just not in the memories with me." Elizabeth tried to explain but Bucky wasn't listening and her voice was more of a crying mess. She couldn't help it. "I'm so sorry."

Elizabeth fell into his arms and he welcomed her. it was still Elizabeth, still his Elizabeth. Right?

"It's okay." One hand left Liz's back and went to his back pocket, pulling out a picture of them together in front of the Eiffel Tower. "This was us, on a mission in London with Killgrave. The Purple Man."

She shook her head. "I went alone."

Steve had walked in and Elizabeth couldn't help how Tony fixed her door to not make any noises anymore. She missed him. Wherever he was.

"Hey Liz."

"Hello, Steve." Elizabeth had a strain of guilt in her voice. "Um, I still can't remember James."

"Bucky." Bucky corrected her. "This is messing with her reality, Steve."

"We'll fix it, pal." Steve patted his friend on the back, pushing him out the room. "Get some rest, Liz. We will figure this out."

--

"Bruce, you should have told us as soon as you figured this out. Maybe we could have-"

"We couldn't have done anything Nat." Bruce interrupted her out of guilt. "I don't know what happened or what Tony injected into her but to find out I need to run more tests."

"She's a kid who got out of a coma and fixed our problem. Look how we thanked her!" Steve slammed a file onto the table. "You know what, Buck this is your fault."

"Steve." Wanda warned him.

"If you didn't leave her this would have never happened. You promised to protect her."

"Steve-" Wanda shouted this time.

"Now look at what happened."

Bucky was defeated. It was his fault Elizabeth was this way. "I'm sorry." His heart crumbled at the thought his Elizabeth could be gone forever. He couldn't tell if he hated himself for it or hated her for not living her life when he left. "I have to go." Something inside his mind triggered. Tony.
