Jealous

It was just a normal school day, where you were getting ready to go for lunch break. While packing your stuffs, a boy came running to you with a letter in hand, "please accept this!" he handed out the letter with both arms spread out, head facing the floor. Not knowing what to do, you just stared at him in shock. Seeing no response from you, he just threw the letter on your table and ran away.

You looked at the letter on your table, debating in your head whether or not to open it. Deciding not to, you kept the letter in your drawer and went off to find your friends. At the table, you told your friends about what happened. "Omg, you've got a confession letter! How amazing is that?!" One of your friend exclaimed. "But i don't like him, what should i do?" you asked. "Maybe you should meet up with him and tell him that. The faster the better, don't keep that poor boy waiting." your friend suggested. "Okay, i will meet him later. For now let's just eat" You and your friends continue your lunch and chat for a moment until the bell rings.

You've asked the boy to meet you after class to give him your answer. Little did you know, someone knew about the confession letter that you received. It was your bestfriend, Ran. You didn't tell him about it as you knew he was having practice with his friends and you thought that he wouldn't care about small matters like this. Well, of course he would. He had been having this crush on you for god knows how long. So when he knew about the letter, he was upset that you didn't tell him. What's even more upsetting is that you planned to meet up with that boy. He thought you've accepted the boy's confession.

Back to you, class seems to finish earlier than it supposed to be. You texted Ran saying to wait for a while as you need to finish up something before walking back home together. You went to the place to meet up the boy. There, you told the boy that you couldn't return the feelings as you have feelings for another person. You apologized and say that you can be friends. The boy was sad but accepted to be your friend. You quickly went to gate, afraid that Ran has waited too long, but you didn't see him there. You were curious as why he didn't wait for you. You thought that maybe he got things to do at home so didn't think much about it and walk home alone.

The next day, you saw him at the hallway. "Good morning!" you greeted him excitedly. "Hey" was all you got back. And he just walk by you. 'Strange' you thought. The following week is a week full of him avoiding you, giving you the smallest respond, not walking home together. At that time, you were thinking maybe you did something wrong, maybe you made him upset or something. One day, you caught up with him at the library and asked "Hey, did i do something wrong? Are you okay?" "I'm fine, i gotta go" he said, rushing to somewhere. Okay, now, you're sad. You didn't know what was going on, You were completely lost.

For days, you couldn't eat or sleep properly, thinking what could make Ran mad at you. "Please Y/N you have to eat something." your mother said. "I'm fine, not really hungry" you forced a smile. Later that evening, you went out to buy stationary. Only wearing a hoodie and a pair of sneakers, you proceed to the store nearby.

Because of not eating and sleeping properly for days, your face became pale. So you wore a mask just in case you met someone you knew. While standing infront of the shelf, you felt someone standing beside you. Not thinking much you reach out for a pen right on the top shelf. Not being able to reach it, you sighed out maybe a little too loud. Then you heard the person beside you chuckled and helped you take the pen down. Just when you were about to thank that person, you saw it was Ran. And it seems that he noticed it was you as well. You quickly took the pen from him while mumbling a thanks, and went to the cashier to pay, ignoring the fact that he was calling you.

After paying, you ran out of the store hoping he didn't chase after you. You don't want him to see you in this state. But of course he did. He grabbed your hand to stop you from running away.  "Hey what's wrong with you? Are you alright? Are you sick?" He asked. "No I'm fine, just a little tired"you answered, tears threatening to fall. "No you're not. Is it that guy? the one that confess to you? did he do this to you?" "Huh? Him and i are not together. What makes you think we are together?" " But he confessed right? and you accepted him"
"No i did not.Wait, is that why you've been avoiding me this whole week?just because you thought i had a boyfriend?" His ears turn red upon your boldness. "...Yes.." "Omg i was worried for nothing, you could've just ask me about it, why avoid me?" Ran just stood there,not saying a word, still holding your arm.

"I thought i made you mad or something. You've never avoided me like this, and it's because i didn't tell you about the boy. Damn, i should have told you earlier, I'm sorry." The tears that were in your eyes now flow out like they craved for freedom. "Nonono, I'm sorry i didn't asked you about it and just jump to conclusion on my own. I'm sorry, don't cry" He said, quite panicked as he never see you cry in a long time. He used his long sleeve to wiped your tears. He engulfed you in a big hug, repeating the same phrase over and over again. "I'm sorry, don't cry, i won't do it again."

After finish crying, you both went to the park. You sat at the bench while waiting for him to buy ice cream which he said to make you feel better. He came back, both hands holding ice cream in cup. "Here for the crying baby, (any flavour you like) ice cream." You hit him on the arm to stop him from teasing you. After a while, he said "I admit that I'm jealous when i heard about the letter from your friend and that you were going to meet the boy. I thought that you were going to accept him. Jealousy got the best of me, and i just acted without thinking." "It's okay, now that i know why, i don't have to worry about it anymore. But why are you jealous?" He stopped eating his ice cream, "I-I erm you know- haha-" " Do you like me?" you asked, genuinely asking, not knowing how he feels about you.

The familiar sight of his ears turning red will never grow old. But suddenly, "If i said yes, what will be your answer?"  Not expecting this respond, your mind went blank at that moment. Ran chuckled at your expression, and waited patiently for you to respond. Laughing softly with a bit of confidence you said, "i would've said i like you too" His face glows up like the sun and smiled brightly. Putting his ice cream on the bench, he carried you and spun you around happily.

After a few rounds, he put you down and asked, "Will you be my girlfriend?" "Of course i will!" you said. And then you both walked back home, hands intertwined. When he dropped you off infront of your house, you quickly gave him a kiss on the cheek and ran back inside your house. He touched the side of his face that you kissed and smiled, drunk in that feeling. The both of you had a good night sleep, excited to spend the next day together, and many days more.
