summary: after the year 2050, the country has been taken over by a tyrant of a president who after 20 years worth of experiments has made it so that every child that is born after the year 2051 is genetically mutated so that they have a red tattoo (called a soul mark) somewhere on their skin.this red tattoo comes along with a time that is on their wrist from the minute they're born, they have to find their soulmate before the age of 27 where they die if they haven't found love and procreated.
however, not only do you get a red soul mark you also get a white soul mark for every crush that you get in your lifetime whether it's a celebrity soul mark or just a person, you also get a black soul mark for every relationship or hook up that you get into whilst trying to find your soulmate
notes:
so my idea for this is that elle lightwood is one of the possibly 25 people in her school to not have found her soulmate yet, she is a senior and high school and her time on earth is numbered, but she never wanted to find her soulmate in school because she wanted to be more focused on her studies and her own self lovehowever, she's surrounded by people in love including her own bestfriend who found her soulmate freshman year, but barely focused on her studies so this is her second time repeating senior year.
a couple years later, she finds her soulmate but they had nothing in common and she didn't think he was the one because he had too many marks, however they somehow end up meeting again and finally get together
by the age of 25, she is devastated because she is pregnant and about to give birth but she now has to attend the funeral of her best friend who died, (she is 27) because she was unable to find her soulmate, now elle is left with her best friends' two kids and a kid of her own on the way.
oh, and it turns out the person she thought was her soulmate was actually her bestfriend's soulmate but the tattoos between elle, her soulmate, her best friend and elle's actual soulmate are so similar it was difficult to decipher.
so now elle has two years to find out who her soulmate is, or she leaves her kids behind.
it is said that couples that do find their soulmate, live and happy and fruitful life but could that be true?
and what about the people that are unable to procreate? or the soulmates who are unable to find their true love because their true love was a stillborn baby or died in a terrible accident?
what if elle's soulmate is already dead?
extra notes: i'm thinking this book could possibly has a sequel or maybe even three books, one of her in school, one of when she finds her soulmate and the last one when she's pregnant and has to find her actual soulmate.
— and that's it! —
