Chapter 8: Dance Floor
My heart almost skipped a bit. For a moment, I felt speechless. I could not think of a word to say. All I know was my heart was beating so fast I thought it wanted to leave my chest.
"I don't care if you don't like me back. It won't be long til I change your mind." He was so confident.
The song ended. We both fell silent but I could hear his breathing.
"So you wore what I gave you?" he asked smiling before looking down at my chest where the sunflower brooch was pinned. I could not fully see his reaction because of his mask.
I seem to have lost my tongue. No sound escaped from my mouth. All I could give him was a nod.
Mew cupped my face. Our eyes met. I almost drowned watching his pair of deep eyes. They were longing. They were inlove.
"It's a family heirloom. My grandfather gave it to my grandmother a day before their wedding. She wore this while my grandfather wore this. " He pointed at his sun brooch.
I became even more speechless. Emotions came rushing inside my brain. My heart became restless and my knees became week.
"Please talk," he said worriedly.
"W-what do you want me to s-say?"
"You just called me Hadrian for the first time. Can you say it again?"
I shook my head. "I don't want to."
"But why? You said it sexilly. I never thought someone could say my name in a sexy way until you did." Now he sounded amused. His lips pursed. "Can you say it again? Please, Antinous."
"I don't want to."
"How I wish I recorded it." He said it full of regrets.
I completely felt lost about what was happening. I did not feel an inch of being uncomfortable. It was the opposite actually. Being so close to Mew made me feel so comfortable. I did not care if he was another man. All I could care about was having him in front of me.
What is happening to me? I am so confused. Does this mean I like him?
He just confessed to me a few minutes ago that he likes me. But until now, it hasn't fully sinked in.
Mew reached for my scarf that was wrapped around my neck. He wore it on himself afterward. I watched him in amazement.
"I gave you a brooch so I'll have your scarf."
It was like I got hypnotized because I did not protest to what he wanted to happen. That scarf was a gift from my grandmother on my 18th birthday. It means so much to me. But I had this feeling about Mew that he would take care of it.
"I will take good care of this. I promise. So let me wear it for tonight, Antinous." It was as if he knew what I was thinking.
A knock was heard from the door. I immediately pushed him away, enough to get our bodies at a distance. Mew looked at me with a worried face.
I walked past him and walked towards the door, grabbed the handle, and opened it. Anais who was wearing a blue gown and a black mask was waiting outside.
"Hey. Ready to go?" she asked excitedly. She saw Mew inside and her attention immediately shifted to him. "Hey, Mew. You should come with us."
I glanced at Mew who was seriously looking at me.
"Yeah. I will," he responded.
We locked eyes once again before Anais pulled me towards her, wrapped her arms around mine and waited for Mew to come outside. When he did, Anais did the same to him. We walked towards the auditorium with Anais clinging to our arms.
