"Oh hell no," Kie said when she saw me slide open the van door.

"Why is she here?" Pope waved to me.

"Yeah, Sarah. Why is she here?" John B questioned with a bitter tone.

She looked to me then back to everyone else, "She saved my life when Rafe was drowning me and she's been my best friend for so long -- I can't just leave her!"

Everyone was silent at that and watched me as I closed the door. My legs gave out as I slid down to the floor and let out a sigh of relief. I didn't need Sarah's Pogue friends to forgive me, but as long as Sarah cared, it was enough.

John B pressed on the gas and we zoomed after the police cars. We pulled up right behind the gate and spilt out from the van. Everyone gathered to the wall and looked over.

"Holy shit," Sarah said.

"I can't see!" JJ said and pulled at Pope's shoulder.

"Great, now I can't see," he said.

I looked over the wall and saw blue and white cars parked around the house, with cops running around. I saw Rose standing at the door with a worried look on her face. I saw Shoupe run toward the water, yelling at the other cops.

"Screw it. I'm going over." John B pressed the palms of his hands on the wall and pushed himself up.

"Right behind you," JJ smiled and cupped his hands together as Sarah put her foot on them. "All right. Three, two, one, go." He shoved her up and over while I climbed the wall on my own and jumped down.

I ran even though my legs were killing me. Wheezie came out of the house and asked, "Why are the police here?"

Sarah went to her, hugging her tightly. She said in her sister's ear, "Go inside. Do not come out." Wheezie looked at me before running back into the house.

We all made our way down to the druthers and saw one of Ward's boats on the water. We ran on the deck and to the cops.

"Dad!" Sarah screamed as we walked past the cops and to the boat.

Ward was on the boat watching her with wide eyes. "What are you doing here, Sarah?!" he yelled.

"Dad! What are you doing?!" she screamed back.

"Shoupe you gotta get her outta here! She can't be here right now!" Ward shouted.

I could hear water swishing under my feet as the cops talked on their radios.

"Just come on in, and you can talk to her!" Shoupe answered.

Ward closed his eyes like he was holding back tears before he walked to the controls. "Sarah, I'm so sorry. I can't," his voice broke.

The anchor was rising from the water and the yelling only intensified.  "What are you doing, Dad?! No, no, no!" Sarah cried.

The cops had radios in their hands as they asked for more backup and marine patrols. "Ward, this ain't gonna end the way you want it to!"

But I knew that Ward knew better than to run away. He was going to do something else... Boats with sirens started closing in on Ward's boat, but I don't think that was his biggest problem. Why was he insisting Sarah to leave?

He hurried down the ladder as he shouted, "I love you!"

"No, Dad. Don't leave! Where are you going?!"

"Ward! Turn it around and get back here!"

"Dad! Please don't leave!" Sarah had tears in her eyes, threatening to fall. She has gone through so much, and only for him to escape. I couldn't imagine how that felt, especially if it was your own father. John B and the rest of the Pogues were watching silently. I didn't know what they were thinking but it didn't matter.
