Mason.

I have to keep Mason safe!

If one of us gets killed or captured it's me.

The gunshots resonate and my human instincts kick in. Flinging my body towards Mason I drop him to ground covering his body with mine.

"If anything happens I held you hostage, understand," I whisper into his ear.

"No Abigail, I'm not going to say that," he struggles beneath me trying to fight me off.

"Damn it, Mason, stop!" I hiss and the swishing of vampires running makes me look up.

On the other side of the field, I can see Wes running after Chris.

"Mason get up!"

Removing myself off of him I can hear the heavier footsteps of the humans.

"Maybe we can play it off!"

"What?" Mason is confused but I do not elaborate any further.

Mason looks pretty beaten up a cut lip, a bruised eye, and his breathing is erratic.

"Mason, pull my hair!" I look at him and he looks at me as if I have finally lost all my marbles.

"No!" He breathes.

"Come on, pull my hair and punch me." His eyes widen and he takes a step back.

"Are you — "

"Just do it!" I hiss and the look of uncertainty might have made me laugh in any other situation I needed him to just do what I asked.

He groans in frustration, "fine," with that he grabs my hair and gives it a hard jerk to the side and then without thinking too much about it punches me on the cheek.

His hit is nothing to me but I have to act as it hurts. Following his swing I throw my body in the direction he hit me in and my body collides with the ground and my hair spreads on the dirty ground.

"I'm so sorry!"

"No, I'm sorry," his eyebrows pull together just as my leg sweeps from under him and his body collapses to the ground close to me just in time for the hunter to make it through the trees.

Think like a human, as a human!

Forcing a cough through my lips and a groan escapes me.

"Jason! Jason, are you okay?"

Mason is breathing heavy but he looks at me as if I have some head trauma and do not know his name.

"They were here just a moment ago," the male voice rings in my ears.

"There's someone here look," I roll to my side and take a long breath shutting my eyes close tightly as if I were in pain.

"Let's see if they're humans," the leaves crunch under their feet as they make their way towards us.

"Those people attacked us, that is all we're going to say," I whisper to Mason.

"Hey, are you two alright," my eyes dart to the two men before us.

They are wearing sunglasses and black trench coats. Sunglasses this late at night?

Groaning I sit up, "yeah we're fine."

Their hands tighten around their guns and I stare at them as trying to portray as much fear in my eyes as I possibly could.

"Don't worry ma'am we're here to help."

The skinnier man steps forward and lends a helping hand to me. I take it and he lifts me up Mason does not need any ones to help him, he gets up on his own.

"Do you know what happened?"

The bulkier man asks us. Mason opens his mouth to speak but I beat him to it.

"We have our own spot just over those trees," I point behind us, "and as we were making our way over there we heard some arguing. When we got to the clearing there were a couple men arguing they were not too happy that we walk in in the middle of their argument."

Forcing a sob through my lips I turn to Mason as he stands there staring at the men with their hands on their guns.

I bury my face into his chest and Mason pulls me closer his hands running over my arms trying to comfort me.

"What did you think of these men? Was there anything out of the ordinary about them?" The skinnier man asks.

"Nothing out of the ordinary, they were just some thugs that wanted to pick a fight with us and of course they would win they outnumbered us." Mason hisses as anger swells up in him.

"We're sorry about that Sir we will try to get these men. Do you know which way they went?"

I can feel Mason move his arm probably pointing in the direction that they went.

"Thank you."

"Oh, and next time you decide to shoot I would suggest that you know who you're shooting at," Mason growls at them. "Come on," he gives me a gentle push and I pull away from Mason.

"Be careful you two the road is a mile north," one of them says.

"We know where we are going," Mason says as he pulls me into the direction of the trees.

The men run off and I turn to look at Mason.

"Where's Hannah?" He exhales slowly.

"She's in the warehouse, Wes' place I believe."

Wes kept them safe.

"Did he take you there as well?"

"No, he brought the bat so that I can defend myself because he knew that he was not going to be able to make the trip twice." His eyes soften.

"Mason you have to go to Hannah and I'm going to help Wes." His eyebrows pulled together a bit.

"Abigail," I look at him unsure of what more he might want to say, "please go with me. Stay safe with me."

"Mason, I need," his hands enclose around my arms, "I need to —"

Mason does not let me finish my sentence he pulls me closer and I know that I can easily break his hold on me but there is a big part of me that yearns for his closeness.

Mason's hands rise up skimming my arms my human instincts would have helped me with the situation but all I have to go with is this demon that resides inside of me, my vampire side.

My gums ache as Mason's hands encase my chin and he lifts my face higher.

"Abigail, I — " Mason lowers his face towards mine and his eyes flutter close. I swallow down and then his warm lips press against mine. He moves his lips slowly and I follow his lead.

"Mason," I mutter against his lips his body against mine and our lips together seems to calm my demon and my gums do not hurt anymore. Pulling away slowly he opens up his eyes.

"You don't know how long I've waited to do that. I've had a fee — " My finger pushes against his lips.

"Shh, this is not the place to talk about this. Go to Hannah and I'll help Wes. After all this we can talk," Mason nods at me. "Meet me back at our apartment, okay."

"Okay and Abigail please be careful."

"Of course," now I have a reason to be careful.
