Destin

Destin spent about three hours talking to Alfonso before leaving the hotel and heading over to his cousin Tyshawn's house. They are cousins but more like brothers. At one point they did everything together but Tyshawn settled down, got married and had a kid. Destin's god daughter, Kayla.

Destin walked straight in once he got there because Tyshawns house was like another home.

"Ty!," Destin yelled as he entered the house.

"I'm in Kayla's room," his cousin yelled back.

He walked up the stairs and into the princess themed room to find a giggling toddler and stressed-out Ty. Destin picked Kayla up from the crib where she was standing and looked at Ty who was sitting in the corner of the room looking defeated.

"What's wrong, dog?"

He paused thinking for a second. "My daughter is bad," Ty concluded, making Destin let out a gut busting laugh.

"Why are talking shit about this little angel," he said in a baby voice making faces at Kayla who was giggling up at him.

"I was trying to be on some good husband shit right," Ty said waiting for a response as Destin was laughing because he didn't know where this was going.

"My bad Ty. Continue."

"As I was saying," he rolled his eyes. "Simone's here with Kayla all day every day. So ,I thought she could use some time off. Last night I told her I got Kayla today and gave her some money. Tell her to call her friends and enjoy a day off, you feel me?"

"Yeah."

"Simone dips early to start her day with breakfast," he said with a yawn. "But I'm not tripping because she deserves that. Kayla starts tripping as soon as Simone closes the front door bro," he stressed the words front door making Destin fight not to let out chuckle.

"Now she's crying, refusing naps, she won't eat, and she won't let me sit down while I'm holding her and doesn't want to be set down," he said with a sigh. "Ain't no way she does this shit to Simone. "

Trying his best to hold in his laughter, Destin patted Ty on the back. The man went to war with a 14-month-old and lost.

"Well, I'm here to help. Go take a shower or something. I'll feed Kayla."

Destin walked into the kitchen and grabbed some of Kayla's baby puffs, pouring them on the tray and setting her in her highchair. She immediately started eating the puffs. Poor child was starving. Taking a seat at the table close to Kayla, he whipped his phone out and googled 'Karis James.'

He found her Linked In, Twitter, Facebook, and her Staff bio page at what might be her current and past job's. Scrolling through her media, he found out she loves literature, seems to spend most of her time with her best friend and has a younger sister who is in high-school.

After clicking through all her pages like a damn stalker, he scrolled through her job's website, looking for a number. All he could find was an email and general office number. He figured one of them had to work, so he took them both down.

"What's that," Ty asked, startling him because he didn't hear the man walk in.

"A girl."

Ty let out a breathy chuckle. "What girl?"

"Karis."

"Who is Karis?"

"She's just a girl that I met earlier."

"Nigga, when you start googling girls you meet," he asked obviously confused at his cousins actions. Destin didn't have a clue how to answer him because he was confused himself.

"She's a cute girl."

"You meet a lot of cute girls." He paused and thought. "You prolly spent last night with a cute girl. "

They broke out into laughter startling Kayla who started to cry. Destin picked her up and paced the kitchen before turning back to Ty who was patiently waiting for an explanation.

"She's not cute like that." He paused looking at Ty whose eyebrows are now raised. "Well, she is but that's not what I mean."

"My boy is getting flustered," Ty laughs, feigning shock.

"Fuck you dog."

"As you were saying. Karis is..."

"Okay. Normally I meet a fine girl and immediately start laying the mac down, you know how I'm coming," he paused trying to find the words he needed. "But I see this girl on my way to see a client and it's like I was drawn to her bro, shorty had me flustered. I just want to get to know her."

"I feel you..... But why are you googling her."

"I asked for her number and she told me I was smart and if I wanted to talk to her, I'd figure out how."

Ty laughed. "Can't wait to meet her."

"I've barely met her."

"You will. Is she why you were late? Nigga, you was supposed to be her hours ago."

"Nah I went to see Bibi and Babu, then a client called."

Destin then updated Ty on their grandparents for a while and told him what he could about Alfonso Romero and representing him.

He stayed at Ty's for hours before leaving and going home. Which is odd for him. Destin Yaasin rarely spends a weekend night alone.

New day

Four hours into Destins work day and no amount of going through documents, signing things, or filing things, could keep the alluring goddess with the long locs and tight body out of his head.

He checked the clock to see it was 11:30, almost lunch and debated with himself for what felt like the 100th timed before saying fuck it and calling the number he had saved a few days prior.

He hit the call button and within the first two rings the phone was answered.

"Hi. Thanks for calling Exquisite Publishing. How may I direct your call," the chipper voice on the other end of the phone asked.

"Hi. Can you direct my call to Karis James please?"

"May I ask who's calling."

Smiling, he said, "It's a surprise, can you just tell her it's a very smart man."

"Sure, hold please."

He put my phone on speaker as he thought about what he'd say when she answered. Getting nervous he realized he didn't really think this through. What if she is busy? Then a question hit him.

Why do I give a fuck?

"This is Karis James," her soft high-pitched voice came through the phone.

"Hey," he said into the phone before taking a deep breath to compose himself.

I just hopped on the phone with a shorty and said hey?

"Hey," she responded amused. "May I ask who's calling?

"Why don't you tell me who's calling?" She paused but he knew she knew.

"I am impressed, Mr. Yaasin. Now that you've contacted me, how can I help you," she said, remaining professional.

"Have you had lunch already?"

"No. I have a really busy day."

"Everyone is owed a lunch break. Take yours with me?"

"okay."

"Okay?"

"Yes," she laughed.

"I'll pick you up in ten minutes?"

"Don't you need the address," she asked, sounding confused.

"No ma'am, I have it," he said, smiling at my phone.

"Do I have a stalker?"

"I only honored your request. See you in a few minutes."

He hung up the phone and called Ty. He'd never really had to try with a girl before. For some reason unknown to him, he really wanted to get this one right.
