Chapter 5
Kendall's POV
That was odd...
I walk to the car pick up area at the end of the school day.
Today was definitely odd. There was a lot of drama, new people, and boring classes.
The new people are all very welcoming, well except for Ari. How badly did I offend them?Nary drives up and I leap through the window.
"Saints!" They curse. "Will you stop doing that?"
"Nope," I reply, grinning from the adrenaline rush. "Are you watching Shadow and Bone again?"They nod.
"Your father was watching it while you were at school today."
"Kendall!" A voice shouts.
I turn around and see Rayssa on Quinn's back.
She waves to me and smiles."New friends?" Nary asks.
I nod.
"I hope so."***
We reach my house, only to find my dad and sister on the couch playing the Sims 4.
Nary takes their current read 'Crooked Kingdom', and whacks Dad upside the head with the book."I thought you were making dinner, mister."
"I made it baby," Dad replies. He gestures to the kitchen table in the next room, where chicken enchiladas and table settings are ready to go.
Nary pats Dad's head gently."Sorry honey."
"No worries. Rainne and I are busy creating Sims."I throw my backpack on the stairs, grabbing a PS4 controller and turning it on.
I sit on the armchair as my device's mouse joins the others."Who are we doing?"
"We are giving our Sims updates," Rainne says. "Yours I was saving for last because you know..."
I nod.
"Thank you, Rainy."I ruffle Rainne's hair and start to steal control of CAS, and Dad stands, cutting off his controller and motions for Nary to follow him down the hall.
I make a disgusted face.
"You guys are gross. You're like, in your early forties.""Don't make assumptions you seaweed brain!" Nary calls back. "We're having an adult talk."
I roll my eyes and continue to redesign my Sim.I wasn't ready to change my sim until I was comfortable with my own body and vocal range.
I press the male button, and as my Sim changes, I feel a small change in me. Perhaps a bit more reassurance.Rainne and I finish up our designing as Nary and Dad reemerge, not even ruffled.
I guess I was rude to assume.I sigh.
Like I did with Ari.
I need to talk to them.Rainne sits at the head of the table, and I follow suit, grabbing the enchilada platter.
I pile my plate and pass it over."So, how was your day, Rainne?" Nary asks, putting some queso on their plate.
"It was good. The people are okay, I guess. It's eighth grade and I just want to pass it with A's and B's, and go to high school."
Nary and Dad both nod, understanding. They both turn to look at me.
I involuntarily freeze, about to stuff my face with enchiladas."How was your day, son?" Dad asks.
I swallow.
"It was good, I met some new people and they showed me the ropes."
Nary smiles."That's good to hear Kendall, I am glad you are fitting in."
I give a wary smile, continuing to eat my food.
Tomorrow I will try harder to work and apologise.
