I open my eyes to sunlight bursting through the windows. I pull my pillow over the top of my head and groan. Today was my day off and I didn’t feel like getting out of bed anytime soon.
"You up yet darling?” I hear the door creak open and Adams voice coming closer.
“no.” I respond, groggily. Adam laughs and pulls the pillow off of my head. I glare up at his smiling face.
“don’t do that, you’ll add wrinkles to your beautiful forehead.” He smoothes out my furrowed eyebrows.
“actually, I won’t. I do Jack Lolanes face exercises everyday.” I inform him.
He cocks an eyebrow, “my grandmother did those exercises.”
"You calling me old?” I ask, sounding offended.
“not even close.” He gets off the bed and walks to my closet, pulling out one of my simple dresses and then tosses it at me.
“I told you I wasn’t awake.”
“doesn’t matter, it’s noon and I’m taking you out.”
“aren’t you, like, supposed to ask me out on a date first?”
“aren’t you, like, supposed to just go along with your boyfriends surprises.”
I stick my tongue out at him and walk into the bathroom to change.
“so, where are we going?” I ask for the millionth time in the car.
“for the last time, I’m not going to tell you.”
“fine. Fine. Where are we not going?”
“the movies.” He answers, smiling.
“well that’s good, I don’t like wearing dresses to the movies. The seats are too gross to do that.” he tosses a black scarf to me while we sit at a red light. “what’s this for?”
“put it over your eyes. This is all a surprise.” I roll my eyes and tie the scarf around my head.
I feel the car take a couple rights and then a left and then drive straight for awhile before stopping.
Adams door opens and then shuts and he walks over to my side opening my door and helping me out of the car, "You know how cliché this is, right?”
He just chuckles and leads me a few feet away. I feel the scarf fall off my face and I slowly open my eyes. Instantly my view is filled with a blanket on the ground with a picnic basket and then, as I look up, I see just a field of Daisies in front of me.
“like it?” he asks, sounding totally hopeful.
“love it.”
“that’s good.” I sit down on the blanket, with my legs slightly to the side since I was in a dress and all. It was then that I noticed the guitar.
"You play guitar?” I ask, slightly surprised.
“yep.”
“may I ask why it’s here?”
“I’m playing a song for you.” He smiles.
I roll my eyes and laugh, “let me guess, that box is filled with chocolate covered strawberries.”
“nope. Nutella.”
“just nutella?”
“just nutella. Well, and a spoon.”
“of course, spoons are a necessary accessory to nutella.”
“what are you trying to stall?”
“your singing, I’m not sure what to expect.”
“expect to be blown away.”
“into the ocean? I’d rather not. It’s fairly cold.”
He leans in close to whisper into my ear, “into my arms.” And then he gives me a quick but passionate kiss on the lips that left me wanting more.
“that was really, really cheesy, you know that?”
Adam laughs, “it was, even for me.”
“so, are you playing the song or not?”
“I thought you were stalling?”
“just get it over with Adam.”
“fine, fine.” He adjusts the guitar on his lap and starts to stroke a few chords before singing.
Yeah, you got me to feel all those butterflies inside
In your [closet] I would hide
The truth, it's only you I see
And you're just what I need
I'll bring you flowers everyday
Just to roll you in the hay
Well I'm feelin' fine, I'm right on time
I know I'll get my way
And you're just what I need
And you're just what I need
Not everything works as it seems
Is that so hard to believe
So I went down to the record store
Picked my head up off the floor
The truth, it's only you I see
And you're just what I need
And if it's my world that you fear
Let me make this very clear
Well I'm feelin' fine, I'm right on time
I know I'll get my way
And you're just what I need
And you're just what I need
Not everything works as it seems
Is that so hard to believe
Hey!
I'll bring you flowers everyday
Just to roll you in the hay
Well I'm feelin' fine, I'm right on time
I know I'll get my way
And you're just what I need
And you're just what I need
Not everything works as it seems
Is that so hard to believe
And you're just what I need
And you're just what I need
Not everything works as it seems
Is that so hard to believe
Yeah...
He strums a few more chords before coming to a complete stop.
Throughout the whole song only one thing, well actually two things, were going through my head.
1) I needed to tell him I am/was Skye
2) I love Adam
“so?” he asks, carefully setting the guitar down next to him
“Adam” I start, trying to figure how to get the words out that were jumbled in my head, “I-“ three simple words Juliana! I am Skye. It’s that easy. “I-“ I start again, "I'm-"
