OVER A THOUSAND YEARS AGO.

chapter seven | born into it

"Caww! Oyakata-sama requests your presence for a mission! Immediately!"

You were out the door and on the way in a minute. Your untouched breakfast would have to wait on the table until you returned.

The crow kept bugging you. "Caww! Report to the Demon Slayer Headquarters!"

"I heard you the first time, okay? You can be quiet." You reprimanded. He swooped down and gave you a peck on your head. You attempted to swat him away. "Get off!"

"Be nicer! Become a better person!"

"What? Don't you think I try?" You were confused at his outlandish requests. "What would you know about becoming a better person, anyway? You're just a crow."

If Akihiro deserved it, you would be nice to him. Before he started messing with you and telling you the wrong things, you even let him stay inside the house.

Arriving to the Ubuyashiki estate, you made your way to the briefing-type room that he gave your last mission in. Shinazugawa sat waiting on a pillow, facing the ill-struck man.

"Good morning, (Y/n). It's great to see you today."

Sitting on the pillow next to Sanemi, you greeted, "Likewise, Oyakata-sama."

An unfamiliar crow with missing feathers was perched behind him. "Multiple swordsmen were unfortunately killed on a mountain nearby. The possibility of the Twelve Kizuki being responsible is likely." Ubuyashiki informed.

Shinazugawa spoke for the two of you. "We understand."

"Your crows will lead you to Mount Risaki."

Bowing to him, the both of you set off. Once outside, your crow wouldn't stop bothering Sanemi.

"Gah! Fuck off, you stupid bird! (L/n), did you not train this thing?" He complained.

You sighed. "I wish he wasn't smart enough to think for himself."

"Well, put a leash on it! Or I'll crush him!" He threatened your bird.

The corner of your mouth lifted ever-so-slightly. "Maybe you should."

Akihiro squawked in disagreement, immediately increasing the distance between him and the angry man. "Caw! This way!" The bird turned, but there was no path to follow. You'd have to cut through the woods.
