Chapter 4- " A Dark Day "

Day 4 - morning 8.42 am

" Sir, the reports of Anthony's and Daniel's murder have arrived. " Said Ron.
"Ohh, show me. " Said John and took the reports that Ron gave him.
"Anthony's murder was executed same as Ben's. He was stabbed by same knife as used in Ben's case. And Daniel was poisoned. His drink was poisoned, they found traces of poison on his glass.A very rare poisonous herb was used by the murderer. Ron search all our database and find someone who sells such rare poison. "
" Ok sir. " Said Ron.
" And wait. Happy birthday Ron. " Wished John.
" Thank you so much sir" Said Ron.
Ron was so happy as the chief wished him happy birthday. He had never thought that Chief would know his birthday. Everyone in the team started wishing Ron and Ron was just glowing, he was very happy. Ron thought to himself that this will be the best birthday of his life.
Ron immediately set out for the search of the poison sellers. He had his informers everywhere. So it was not that difficult for him to search for the poison dealers and also he was very happy and confident because of the birthday scene in the station.
He finally caught the poison dealer who sold the same rare poison that was used in Daniel's murder.
" Noah, finally you have been caught. Selling all the illegal poisonous herbs and also drugs. You should be ashamed of this." Said Ron.
" Sorry sir, please let me go, I will close this business today itself. " Said Noah.
"Shut up, give me the list of all the people who bought this poison from you. " Said Ron fiercely.
" Sir, we don't ask names in this business. I don't know any one's name." Said Noah.
" Don't act smart man, I know how you all handle this business, you don't ask for names but you still somehow manage to get the full information of the buyers. So just give me the names fast or else I have other methods to bring out information from you." Warned Ron.
" No sir wait, I will give you the names." Said Noah.
Noah brought his pendrive which had all the information of buyers and gave it to Ron. Noah was arrested. Ron checked all the names one by one.
But suddenly he was shocked by seeing one name from the list.
" No way........ " He said shockingly.

Meanwhile,
In the station, John had asked for the call records of Daniel. He checked all the frequent contacts and found something unusual. Ben and Daniel were in good contact, they used to call daily.
" How come Ben and Daniel know each other so well? " Asked John to himself.
John carefully went through all the files that were collected from Henry's house. The files were all about Ben's & Anthony's black deeds.
After going through some files John found Daniel's name in one file too.
And then in some more files.
"Ohh.......So Ben really was in contact with Daniel. I don't believe Mayor's PA Daniel was a part of such deeds. Mayor must have got no news of this stuff going behind his back.
" Sir, we have caught Henry. " Said Aaron as he entered the John's cabin.
" What, ....good job Aaron. "
" Sir, we have also found the murder knife in his car. " Added Aaron.
" Ohh, so he was the murderer after all,  what are you waiting for lock him up. " Said John.
"Yes sir. " Said Aaron.
" Let's hear what he has to say on this. What made him take such an decision in life. I will be in a minute." Said John.
" Ok Sir. " Said Aaron and went to lock up Henry.
Soon John went to where Henry was locked up for knowing the purpose of murder.
" Henry, finally you are caught, you can't keep running from us. Now tell me why did you kill those three? "Asked John.
" Sir, I didn't kill anyone , I am innocent sir. " Cried Henry.
" Ohh then why was the murder weapon-the knife, in your car. It's shape, length & every other single detail matches with the murder knife. So don't tell me that this is some other knife. " Warned John.
" No sir, I don't know how that knife came in my car, it's not mine sir. Please believe me. " Pleaded Henry.
"We have evidences against you, the first is the knife, second the asthma pump, third the files that have all the wrong deeds of Ben, Anthony and Daniel, which means clearly you had motive of murder. All evidences are pointing towards you Henry." Said John.
" Sir please believe me, I am innocent, I haven't killed anyone sir. "Said Henry who was crying bitterly.
" It's over Henry, nothing can save you now. In 2 days you will be in the court where your final punishment will be declared. " Said John.
Aaron was happy finally the case was solved. John still wanted to know why Henry did this. Then he recalled about Ron.
" Oh.. Ron is still investigating. We have to call him back now that the murderer has been found.
Brian call Ron. " Said John.
"Yes sir. " Said Brian and started calling Ron.
Aaron and John discussed some points of the murder that were still lose and they couldn't find the answer.
" I called Mary yesterday but she didn't pick up the phone, I even called her now to tell her about this case but still her phone is switched off. Where might she be? " Said Aaron.
" Well yes, where is Mary? I went to meet all the suspects yesterday but only Mary was........." Said John but was intervened by Brian.
" Sir Ron isn't picking up the phone. " Said Brian.
" What?.... He never fails to answer calls." Said John " Keep trying."
"Yes sir. " Said Brian. " No sir, I have tried his number around 10 times now, but still no answer. "
" Where could he be? Where are you Ron? " Said John to himself.
After some time John received a call from Officer Peter.
"Chief, the officer that was with you on the day of Daniel's murder..... " Said Peter.
" Yes...his name is Ron. " Said John.
" Well, Sir.......Ahh......I am really sorry to inform you that Ron............ is dead. " Said Peter.
There was a long pause. After hearing this terrifying news John was shocked, he became pale all of a sudden. Finally he found his voice.
" Wha...what did you say? " Said John in a very low and pale voice. " No this can't be happening. No...... I met Ron in morning he can't just die. WHAT HAPPENED PETER? WHERE DID IT HAPPEN?"
" Chief, his body was lying inside Ben's house. Chief, please do come over here. " Said Peter.
"Ah......Yes, I am coming. " Said John dispirited.
Aaron couldn't watch his Chief in pain.
" Sir, please control yourself." Said Aaron trying to comfort John. " Sir, I know you both joined the police force together, and he was also your friend. Sir but you have to stay strong now for us, and for the entire Police Department. "
"Aaron.......Ron was not just my friend, he was ..... he was more like a brother to me. " Said John.
After a pause he said " Take the car out Aaron, we have to go now. "
" Yes sir. " Said Aaron and took out the police car.
Soon they reached the site. Ron's body was lying down bathed fully in blood. This was the first time in John's career where he shred tears for a dead body.
All the team started finding clues but John was just standing between all of this, gazing at Ron's body. Just then Ron's parents arrived, his mother couldn't bear the thought of her son was dead.
" Wake up son. See your father is also here to see you. Get up please. I will make you your favorite pasta. You love your mother's pasta, don't you? Come on now wake up. " Said his mother in denialism.
" Honey, control yourself. Look at me. LOOK AT ME !! Our son is DEAD! He is not coming back. " Said his father trying to make Ron's mother accept the reality.
His father tried to comfort his mother, and then he looked at John. John couldn't look at Ron's father. He approached John.
" John.....or sorry I should say Chief John, you both knew each other from a very young age. And you were always the smartest, talented boy and Ron used to look up to you from that very age. You convinced us to send him in Police as it was his passion. But I could visibly see that Ron just wanted to be with you, that's why he joined the police. And that very day, you had also promised us that you will look after Ron & always make sure that he will be ok. But today........my son....my only son is dead because of you John. You couldn't protect him. YOU ARE THE REASON MY ONLY CHILD IS DEAD ! " Said Ron's father disappointingly.

John's mouth was sealed, he didn't say anything, he was sad and angry and frustrated. He just stood there for a while and then went away without informing anyone. Aaron tried calling John but he didn't pick up. Aaron was worried about John. Aaron and other officers investigated the murder, sent the body for post mortem. Gathered clues.
Next day John announced that he is taking a week off, as he blamed himself for Ron's death. All the police department was upset. It was a very long day. It felt like every single moment lasted an hour. Aaron was made incharge of the Ron's murder case. All was going well the murderer was finally caught, and suddenly this had to happen. WHO KILLED RON?
