Chapter 11

CARMEN'S POINT OF VIEW

In front of the mirror, I fixed my suit a little, and ruffled my skirt. I took a look at myself, finally concluding that I was ready to go to work. I picked up my purse from the coffee table and stepped out of my apartment. I turned around, locked the door, and headed to my car. I started the engine, rolled my windows down, and drove off to work, smelling the warm Las Vegas air. The traffic downtown was horrible, as usual, so I turned the radio on.

"Next up, Tonight I'm Loving You by En-"

I realized the song and artist, and quickly switched the radio station, trying not to think about the person who sang that song. Eight years...

Eventually, I made it through heavy traffic to the Cosmopolitan hotel in City Center at the Strip, which is where I landed a job in the Marketing department. My job is to oversee commercial and fiscal issues as well as to interview and hire new employees for the hotel.

I took the elevator up to my office, which is on the 5th floor, and set my stuff down on my desk. I glanced over at my schedule. Alright, 7 interviews for today. I went over to my coffee machine and got a cup ready for the day.

My first interview walked in at 9 o'clock, and I started to dish out questions.

ENRIQUE'S POINT OF VIEW

"From the top again!" the director shouted.

Oh my God, that's it.

"What the hell was wrong with that shot?!" I screamed.

"You need to make that kiss believable," he responded, lightly.

"Okay, you know what? Screw you, and screw this video. I don't even know why I agreed to this. Pull the plug."

I walked out, fuming, and went to my dressing room to get my stuff. My manager, Dave, walked in, about to say something.

"Dave, I know what you're gonna tell me."

"That you did a good thing quitting this music video?"

I looked over at him, confused.

"Dave, what are you talking about?"

"I'm sorry, Enrique, but everyone thought that this video was a bad idea, so, props to you."

I smiled and patted him on the back.

"Shall we get on with your tour?"

"Where's the next show?"

"Las Vegas."

"That's perfect, since we have a couple days to kill. This damn video wasted a lot of my time."

CARMEN'S POINT OF VIEW

"Thank you, Ms. Winters, we will call you as soon as possible to let you know if you got the job."

"Thanks so much again!" Ms. Winters replied.

I shut the door behind her, and checked my watch. 6 o'clock, I finished early today! I quickly cleaned off my desk and picked up my purse, shutting the lights off in my office and closing the door behind me. As I proceeded to lock the door, a familiar face stopped me.

"Carmen! You're done a little early, aren't you?"

The voice is Sophia's.

"Haha yeah, and it looks like you are too," I reply.

"Yeah," she says, "Today was actually very slow. Mondays are the worst!"

Sophia works as one of the waitresses at the super high end restaurant on the hotel's top floor.
