ENRIQUE'S POINT OF VIEW
"Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!" Isabella and Emilio said, together.
"Aww, thank you darlings," My beautiful wife Carmen responded.
"How long have you guys been married now?" Isabella asked me.
"Well, hija, I believe it's been 15 years now, isn't that right, Carmelita?"
"That's right," She replied, smiling.
"That's a really long time, Mom!"
"It was all worth it, though," I said to Isabella. "As for you, Emilio, I hope you find a woman as amazing as your mother is."
"Haha, ew! I'm going to bed now!" Emilio shouted, running upstairs.
Carmen and I laughed at our amazing children. They both have her eyes and hair. When Isabella and Emilio fell asleep, I took Carmen up to our room. I flopped down on the bed, and Carmen climbed in, resting her head on my chest.
"Happy Anniversary, babe," she said.
"Happy Anniversary, darling," I responded back.
Carmen breathed with her head still resting on my chest. She was playing with her silver necklace strung around her neck.
"You still have that?" I asked, jokingly.
"Of course," She replied. "It's so important to me. Your first gift to me, dating all the way back to my fifteenth birthday," she said, laughing.
"Haha, so?"
"It also had the song of my life in it, which I didn't know for seven or eight years! It's the song that saved us. I saved the lyric sheet, too! I'm so glad you wrote it. You really cared so much for me, Enrique..."
"Haha, I still do, and always will, Carm."
I smiled as she leaned up to kiss me. She ended up falling asleep on my chest. I sat there with a gorgeous Carmen breathing softly and sleeping on me. I thought about how far we had come in life. I'd known my wife since we were five years old. After a while, I fell asleep while thinking about our beautiful children as well as about how we had spent most of our lives as best friends, not knowing that we would eventually fall in love with each other in the end.
