Chapter 6
CARMEN'S POINT OF VIEW
"Seeya, Mom," I said after I slid down the staircase banister, as I headed out the door, slamming it behind me.
My friend Sophia was waiting for me outside.
"Gosh, Carm, what took you so long?" She said, half angrily.
"Sorry Soph, I just woke up late."
"Well hurry up! This is basically the most important day of our lives!" She said, already ten feet ahead of me.
"Haha yeah right! Wait up!" I called after her.
Sophia thought that today was the most important day of our lives because we were starting high school. I totally disagreed with her. Being freshmen was not necessarily the greatest thing in the world. We ran past the hospital and the car dealership in a hurried effort to get to school early. I pulled the entrance door open for Sophia and she scampered in. Man, she really is excited. She found her locker. Mine was about five lockers down from hers. She quickly stuffed her books in her locker, and I did the same. When she was done, she met up with me at my locker because I took a while.
"Hurry up!" She said, eagerly.
"Jeez Soph, you need to calm down," I said, laughing to myself.
She laughed and attempted to calm herself down. We walked around through the halls of the school to kill some time. It would benefit us to know where we were going, anyway.
"Man, this school is huge," Sophia said softly.
"Haha, are you scared now, Soph?"
We both laughed, but she didn't answer. After walking a while, we sat down on a bench in the school. She spoke up again.
"Carm, there are SO many good looking guys at this school."
I laughed and this time, I was the one who didn't say anything. But before I could even think, Sophia was pulling on my arm as we watched the people around us.
"Carmen Ortega, who is that?! He's perfection... I want him."
I laughed, hoping that this guy in particular would actually be perfect. I looked up to see who she was talking about, but I didn't see anyone who looked perfect. She pulled on my arm again.
"Over there!" She said, signaling nonchalantly.
I reverted my attention to a Hispanic guy walking past us.
"Oh," I managed to choke.
ENRIQUE'S POINT OF VIEW
I am seriously the coolest guy in this city. I walked in with my shades on, pants lowered, collar popped. I walked right into a bathroom to check myself out. You are one fine guy, I said to myself. I looked fantastic today. I was glad, too, because I knew I'd be meeting all these fine girls today. I walked out of the restroom to my locker, air of swagger around me.
When I hit up the lockers, there was a super hot girl at her locker next to me. Let's go, first move of the day, player!
"Hey, I'm Enrique," I said, flashing her my half smirk.
"Hey," She said, winking at me.
Haha, so it's gonna be like that?
I handed her a little piece of paper with my number. Her eyes grew wide. I winked at her and kept walking. Nice one, Enrique.
I walked past the lunch room, where I saw a couple girls sitting on a bench. I decided that none of them were really good looking enough for me, so I kept walking. By the time school was ready to start, I had given my number to thirteen girls. I am such a natural. Let high school begin.
