Chapter One: Graduation

          2006: Bella and I sat beside each other at the graduation ceremony. On the other side of me was Edward Cullen. He and I were classmates for the past year since my twin and I transferred here. Admittedly, I had a crush on his father and Edward knew that. Bella had no idea but Edward always teased me about it.

          "He is here, you know," he whispered in my ear.

          I jumped and backhanded him in the chest, "Shut up!"

          "Bellezza Swan, valedictorian, and Isabella Swan," our principal called from the podium.

          Edward snickered as my twin and I stepped on the stage to receive our high school diplomas. I looked into the crowd and saw Dr. Cullen sitting beside our father, Chief Charlie Swan. I blushed and sheepishly went back to my seat between Edward and my twin.

          "You saw him. You're blushing," Edward continued to tease me.

          I elbowed him in the ribs, "Ed, shut up!"

          He stifled his laughter and the ceremony continued. When the ceremony ended, I had already forgotten about Dr. Cullen because of our excitement and ran to my father. Our mother passed away last year in Arizona where we were living before moving here. Without her, we had to move in with our dad. I didn't mind at all. Bella hated it and kept to herself. I made a lot of friends here, unlike her. When I saw my dad, I ran and jumped to hug him.

          "Belle! I'm so proud of you! I know your mom is, too," he laughed and lifted me off the ground.

          I laughed as I let him go and realized Dr. Cullen was still here. He was wearing a long sleeve button down and his slacks. I blushed when he smiled at me.

          He opened his arms to me, "Congratulations, Belle."

          I turned red and sheepishly hugged him as well, "Th-Thank you, Dr. Cullen."

          He chuckled and he kept his arm over my shoulders when we separated and conversed with my dad, "Your dad tells me that you want to be a nurse."

          I was embarrassed and started to throw punches at my dad, "Dad! I told you I was only thinking about it!"

          "Now, now," Dr. Cullen said and his hand on my shoulder squeezed me, "You still applied for the program and I must admit that I am impressed with your scores. College is a commitment but I would be more than willing to have you intern under me."

          I stared at him and my jaw dropped, "Y-You're serious, Dr. Cullen?"

          Even my dad was shocked, "She did that well?"

          He chuckled and pulled me in ever so slightly with his arm still wrapped over my shoulders, "I reviewed her grades, letters of recommendation, choice of college, and application. I believe your daughter will be a perfect candidate for an internship."

          My dad's attention was taken from us by one of the parents, leaving the doctor and I to converse, "I won't be able to intern for at least 2 years. I thought you and your family were moving next year."

          He made eye contact with me and I felt myself turning red, "I've been thinking that over and I feel that I am still needed here. Especially if you're intending on being a nurse in Forks, as well."

          My stomach had butterflies and I nodded, "I-I'm glad. It wouldn't be the same without you."

          A moment passed of us looking at each other until he took my hand, "Study hard, Miss Swan. I look forward to educating you."

          I was shocked at how cold his hand was and even more flustered when he kissed my hand as he left. I definitely have a crush on him. My heart was always set on being a nurse since my mom was diagnosed with cancer. Her death cemented that goal. Now, my very first crush happens to be a doctor, too. I have at least two years now to make that goal an achievement.
