A/N: hello everyone, this chapter is short and I apologize. I've been insanely busy and hope to get back into updating soon.
I ended up quitting my job as I really wasn't there enough and was definitely going to take some leave for a while. Figure out where I wanted to be and deal with my dads funeral.
I showed up in front of Jax' house and part of me felt weird being here. Knocking on the door, Jax opened it while holding Thomas. Of course the man of the hour had to make my heart skip a beat as he was shirtless standing in front of me. He smirked at my expression and I blushed.
"Come on you weirdo," he welcomed me in and I slipped passed him. Walking in, Abel was in the living room with some toy soldiers. I put my bag down and walked over to him.
"Hey buddy, what are playing with?" I asked sitting on the floor cross legged. You could tell he was depressed and that had me concerned. No little boy should be this unhappy. He didn't answer me. Just continued to push the soldiers around with a truck. Furrowing my brow, I felt for this boy. My father wasn't the greatest parent and my mom was nonexistent so I got how he was feeling now. I got up slowly and grabbed my bag. Looking at Jax, I asked where he wanted me to put my stuff.
"My room, I'll take the couch while you're here."
"Are you sure? Because I don't mind..." he cut me off.
"No I asked you to come back to help me. I said I'd give you a bed." I reluctantly nodded and took my stuff to his room.
When I pushed the door open, I expected to see some of Tara's things but everything was empty. Nothing on the dresser or the vanity. He had removed everything. Jax put Thomas down for a nap and had gratefully found a shirt when I walked out into the living room again.
"We need to talk," I said and he sighed.
"What about?" I nodded to go to the kitchen and he led the way. He leaned against the island and watched me carefully. How was I going to put this without it being harsh.
"I came back to help you, and quite frankly to help myself in a way. But we can't keep playing lovers every time we are in a tough spot." There was no good way of wording it.
"Who said I was playing?" I rolled my eyes at him.
"You were married or in a relationship every time I came home. And ironically it was every time you were having a bump in a relationship. We have to set our boundaries Jax," he watched me intently and pushed off the counter. He was trying to intimidate me or at least make me feel submissive and I would be lying if I said it didn't work.
"Maybe I just never got over those feelings I had for you. You think of that?"
"Or maybe you were over being married?" He glared at me for a minute but sighed.
"I wasn't there all the time. I know that."
"Well you need to be there for them," I pointed back towards the living room.
"And I'll be here to help okay. But we aren't playing games with each other anymore." He nodded and asked if I would accept a hug. I couldn't turn him down and gave a short hug. Which I think we both needed.
