BANG!

Ruby's face explodes as I fall back into the seat, winding up the window, still half dazed. I look forward and see the black blood sliding across the hood as I take shuddering breaths. Nick gives me glances every so often but keeps his eyes on the road - we had to get out of there. As I start to recover from the shock I ask the driver where we were going to go.

"I don't know," he responds, running his hair through his hair. "We can't stay at camp since that's their spawn point but for now we can't risk others getting killed."

"But why? Why did he go for you - you're a Sunnyvaler, and the one who summons the devil each time at that. Why did Tommy go for you?" I ask the question.

"That's the thing! I don't know. I don't know if this has ever happened before I don't know how all my ancestors dealt with this bullshit," he spits frustratedly.

"Research," I say, my mind reeling a hundred miles an hour, "we need to figure out if there was anything about the past Shadyside killers. We can see if there were any, I don't know, any survivors! Or descendants of the past killers. We need to see if they've ever seen the killers coming back to life, we need to find out if your family has ever been hunted by the killers."

"The book of witchcraft!" Nick exclaims. "Solomon stole it from the widow back in 1666 when he sacrificed Cyrus Miller."

I nod to him, "where is it?"

"It's back at my house," he replies while he takes a u-turn.

"I guess we're going back to yours."

"My mom would probably be expecting me anyway," he says.

"You yes, but not me," I groan.

"I just need to find the book. It's in my dad's office safe, I put it there after Nightwing. I'll just duck in and duck out. Easy peasy," he tells me his plan.

"And if the killers get here?"

"Flash the lights. It should only take five minutes tops. Since we're a far enough from Camp it should give us some time."

I agree with him as he pulls into the driveway of his house.

"Five minutes," I tell him. "Get in and get out. If they're going after you, they might go after your family."

He nods before throwing me the keys and gets out of the car. I stay seated, but my seatbelt undone just in case I had to move. It was 10:02 pm right now. I gulp, 10:07 he'll be out. I however, can't help but grab a knife from the consul, clutching in my palm, keeping an eye on my surroundings through the rear-view mirrors.

My eyes flick to the time, 10:04. I grab the gun and check the magazine - only one bullet left. We would need to get more or steal more. I open the glove compartment to rummage around for any possible bullets but come up empty handed. However I find a piece of paper with scribbles all over it.

Thomas. Cindy. Alice. Christine. Gary. Joan. Arnie. Jeremy. Sean. Jesse. Rod. Stacey...the list went on.

Shadysiders I realise. The possible victims he could sacrifice. I bite my inner cheek and stuff it back in the glove compartment, put even more on edge now.

10:05.

I start to tap my foot on the car floor, nervous. What if he got interrupted by his mom or Will? What if he forgot the code? What if the book wasn't there? The questions started running through my mind when I check the time again.
