My eyes opened, a horrible ringing in my ears. My arm stretched over to my phone, my finger searching for the button to turn it off. After about a minute, I found it, my eyes closing in triumph.

"Makoto, get your ass up, we've only got 10 minutes!" My eyes snapped open, eyes glued to my screen. How the hell did I sleep in for an extra hour? I was only meant to have a small nap!

"Coming!" I yelled out of my room, scavenging my bedroom floor for my screwed up clothes. I put my hair gel in my backpack, as I didn't have time to do it right now, 5 minutes left. I slipped my shoes on then raced downstairs, jumping past 5 steps. Komaru was standing at the door, arms crossed.

"You look like shit, did you really sleep through your alarm?" She spoke, and I instantly put my hands in my pockets, staring at the ground.

"You look good too." I spoke bitterly, not really liking her accidental mean comment. I know I'm not the best looking guy, but I didn't need to be confronted by that fact by my own sister!

Our mother strutted up to us, on the phone to someone, car keys jingling. "Makoto, please take you and your sister to school today. Mummy's got some business to take care of." Her voice was as annoying as ever, out of the corner of my eye I saw my father grabbing a beer out of the fridge; it was only 7:20am. And before I could answer, she stole my hand from my pocket and shoved the keys in my hand. "Thank you, dear." She cooed, kissing my cheek before walking off.

I shook my head, clutching the metal. "Makoto?" Komaru gently spoke, however I walked out of the door in front of her, unlocking the car door. "I-I can drive if you'd like. I'm not old enough but I know how to-"

"It's fine." I gritted my teeth, putting the keys into the slot. The whole ride was silent, I was too tired and moody to speak, and my sister felt it was too awkward to start a conversation.

Komaru was in year 10, aged 15. And I was in 6th form, nearly 17. It was one of the first days back since our Christmas break, the date was January 24th. Or was it already nearly 3 weeks back? Anyway, I didn't feel like remembering the date. It wasn't going to help me anyway.

I parked the car in the school's parking lot, then got out and locked the car after myself. Komaru was behind me, probably muttering some revision as she had a test today; a science one. A teacher greeted us at the metal gate which led to one of the 3 entrances to school. There was one which led into the main outside part from the front office, there was one which led from the long walk up a road to the main outside part, and this one, which led from the car park to the main part. It's hard to explain properly.

Komaru said goodbye to me, then rushed inside to get some breakfast at the food area. I stayed outside, walking over to a lone, frosty bench, pulling out a book as I read it in my head. I didn't have many friends, but to those few I did have, they were usually either late, doing something in the morning, or just had other friends.

So here I was, by myself, reading a mystery novel.

"Makoto!" I heard a voice roar, my book went flying out of my hand. Laughter followed their voice, and my face burned hot as it turned red. I looked up at the figure, sighing when I saw who it was.

"Hey Kiyotaka." I grinned, standing up to retrieve my book.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you that much." His voice was full of guilt now, but I shook my head.

"It's okay, it's just that I don't hear people shouting my name out of nowhere. Anyway, what's up?"

"There's a new student in our classes, I suggested last week that we all bake a cake for him as he's arriving later today. By coincidence he's got a dentist appointment, so he's going to be late! Are you available to help us? It's only Aoi, Sakura, Chihiro and Mondo in there right now, but hopefully you and more people will join us!" I nodded, grabbing my cold bag from the wood. "Great! Just follow me!"
