The Lone Soldier

PART 6

After landing we get in our vehicles and drive to the Hyperion Reserve. I'm leading the way as I know how to get there and when we do Roland ECHO's us.

Roland: I bet your friend Claptrap could get through that Hyperion forcefield. He's out of date, though he'll need a software upgrade. Mordecai should have what you need. He's camped out near the Preserve, think he needs your help with something

We follow The path into an opening where I hear scuttling and thanks to my bionic eyes I can see that a stalker is on the wall so I shoot it and notice the second one too late and pretty soon it turns into a full on fire fight between the stalkers and us.

We're shooting stalker after stalker until one gets slagged out of nowhere.

Mordecai: I'll take them out

Maya and me share a look and Zer0 looks for the voice not paying attention to the badass stalker creeping up on him.

It roars and leaps but stops short of Zer0s face as I grab his leg and throw it across the Valley.

Ryker: stay focused Zer0

Zer0 nods and runs off slicing stalkers up left and right as Maya picks up a whole group of them crushing them to bits and there's only one left, I pick up a sign and throw it like a javilin which goes into its mouth and splits it in half.

Ryker: where now?

Mordecai: up the mountain I'm at near the top

We begrudgingly walk up the mountain and make it to the top where a man with dreadlocks is crouched looking through a scope of a sniper he looks up when I accidentally kick a pebble.

Mordecai: Hey over here, Roland ECHO'd ahead, All of my data is in a chip in my bird bloodwings collar-

I shiver thinking about that giant bird.

Mordecai: including your Claptrap upgrade, but some Hyperion jackasses nabbed her and took her to the Preserve.

Ryker: how'd they manage that?

Mordecai: good question since not even you could, she shit your arm out by the way it was mangled and what not but it was you arm non the less

Ryker: what did you do with it?

Mordecai: I displayed it over there

I turn and over on the counter is a shredded brownish yellow mangled teenage arm.

Maya: that's fucked up

Mordecai: he's the one who angered bloodwing plus he killed someone I loved

My face is pale and slightly green.

Ryker: that's fair

Mordecai: anyway I've been scouring the place for the last half-hour and it looks to be at Least a two man job, now if you can get inside the shipyard I can give you support and lead you to bloodwing, you get my bird you get your Claptrap upgrade

He runs to the edge again.

Mordecai: I'll provide support just like in tundra express

Ryker: and I'll stay back that bird scares me shitless

Zer0: Must come, Strongest one

Ryker: aww thanks but no thanks I'll stay here with the maniac who has my arm displayed

Maya: suck it up your coming with us

Ryker: I said no

Maya grabs him by his shirts collar.
