Everyone was on edge as the threat of the Volturie grew closer.  Alice and Jasper did their best to help the wolves prepare to face them.  According to Alice, they were curious, but knowing the Volturie, they liked to take those that intrigued them.

As dawn approached, Aro gathered his group, and started their journey to Forks.  As they grew closer, the wolves took their stances in the clearing.  Alice and Jasper held the flank as they came into view.

Sam POV:

The tension among the pack was through the roof.  I did my best to keep a poker face; trying to hide the worry I knew everyone felt, as I stood beside Jacob.

Like any good alpha, he did his best to encourage us, reassuring everyone that we'd be okay.  We all seemed to hold our breath as the most feared rulers, among the vampire world, came into view.

Jacob phased for the sake of communication, not because he trusted them.  Christopher growled as he got closer to the one they called Aro.  Alice looked to Jacob and nodded as Aro extended his hand.

Christopher POV:

I was very uncomfortable with how close Jacob was to this dark-haired leech.  The mating bond between us had me itching to go to his side and protect him, but Jasper's hand on my shoulder stopped me.

Jasper shared a look with Alice and told me that I needed to phase.  I looked at him questionably, but obeyed.  I ducked behind the closest tree and tried to calm myself.

Alice bekened to me, to take my place beside Jacob.  The look in Aro's eyes, even if they were just curious, made my stomach churn.  Their sickly sweet scent didn't help either.

Vampires naturally have a scent that is atrocious to werewolves.  They reek of syrup, that's been sitting for a while, and strong bleach.  That on top of their blood red eyes would make anyone who is smart keep their distance.

I shivered as Aro's ice cold hands gripped mine.  Sensing the uneasiness, Jacob took my hand and interlocked our fingers.

When he finally lifted his head up, he said, "You, Christopher, are a very unique creature.  The fact that you, just like your mate and brothers, can show so much restraint with phasing is remarkable.  If it wasn't for the fact that we are natural enemies, I would offer you and your mate a spot among the guard"

Jacob's POV:

Aro, the Volturie leader, looked between me and Christopher as if he was expecting an answer.  "Although we appreciate your offer, we prefer to keep our kind and your kind separated, no offense."

Aro nodded and looked to Alice.  She and Jasper knew what was coming and thanked him for his offer, but turned it down.  He turned to his group, took another look at Alice, whispered, "Such a prize, shame you won't join us." , and then they were gone.

" , and then they were gone
