"Okay, girl. Ignore your surroundings. Forget what other people are telling you. Focus. Keep your eyes on the target. Ready. Aim," Malina told herself as she held her bow, ready to shoot at the target. But before she could fire the arrow...
"Announcement for the town! Announcement for the town! His Royal Highness, Prince Gibson, the Sixth, will hold a ball to choose his bride. Every eligible young maiden and princess is to attend!" the royal messenger shouted as he threw the invitations to every house. The unexpected announcement made Malina lose her concentration, and the arrow flew right into a tree trunk.
"Ugh, I hate when that happens," Malina thought to herself as she went to the tree to retrieve her arrow.
"Hey, Lina! Did you hear the news? There's going to be a ball at the palace, and we're invited!" Malina's younger cousin, Guinevere, exclaimed excitedly as she returned home half an hour later. Guinevere lived with her older cousin Malina in Malina's late parents' mansion ever since both Guinevere's and Malina's parents died three years ago.
"Yeah, I'm so excited about being able to wear a dress that's so long you need to lift the skirt to walk, and that's so tight you can't breathe," Malina replied, not meaning a word of it.
"Me too," Guinevere added happily.
"I was being sarcastic, Guin. I hate wearing outfits that make you unable to breathe and move. In fact, I don't even want to go to this ball."
"Well, every maiden and princess must attend, and, with the ball one week away, we need to pick out our dresses soon, so we shall go to the dress shop tomorrow." The next day, after a bit of persuasion, Guinevere brought her cousin to the dress shop.
