Knowing that Gwen and I wouldn't be leaving together, I went to Aunt Amanda's car, where she was already waiting.

About ten minutes of driving later, we arrived at the restaurant.

"Bye, Mollie, have fun. I'll see you at about eleven," my aunt told me before I left the car and went inside the restaurant.

Silver chandeliers were hanging from the ceiling, and the tables were covered with tablecloths made of white silk.

"Wow, Mollie. Is that actually you?" Johnny asked me once we saw each other for the first time that day.

"Yeah, Gwen gave me a makeover for the prom, and I think she did an amazing job," I replied.

We were then brought to our table. We ordered beverages, and I received a corsage from Johnny, composed of white roses and a little blue ribbon that perfectly matched my dress.

Over the next half hour, more students came into the restaurant and were seated at tables. However, when Gavin arrived, Gwen wasn't with him!

"I wonder where Gwen could be?" I questioned aloud to Johnny after looking at Gavin's table (I hoped nobody was noticing me).

"Maybe she's coming later," Johnny suggested.

"But she told me multiple times that he was picking her up at Aunt Amanda's house," I explained. To figure out and understand what was going on, I excused myself to go to the bathroom to call my cousin. I went inside one of the stalls and called her on my phone.

"Hey, Mollie, what's up?" Gwen responded after she picked up the phone.

"Are you still at home?" I asked, a little concerned.

"Yes, but don't worry, Gavin will pick me up soon," she replied, sure of herself.

"But he's already here at the restaurant without you," I told her, hoping I didn't break her heart.

"What? How can this happen?" she almost screamed into the phone.

"He probably thought that he and you would just meet there," I guessed.

"Well, I guess I'll have Mom drive me there and see you in about twenty minutes. Bye," she said before she hung up.

I returned to my table and finished dinner with Johnny. By the time almost everyone had finished their meals, Gwen arrived at the restaurant in her prom attire and sat at Gavin's table with him. After she had quietly finished her dinner, she went over to Johnny and me to talk to us.

"I feel as though Gavin isn't paying attention to me even though I'm his date. What should I do?" Gwen asked, a little concerned.

"You shouldn't fret about it too much because it's only the beginning of the night, and you two probably will talk more at the dance," I told her.

We all left the restaurant and walked to the castle across the street, ready for the dance to start.
