はじめまして

This chapter will be about introductions in Japan. In Japan no matter who you meet or talk to this is the proper way to give an introduction. There really is no informal or formal way, it's just straight across the board.
I'm going to begin by throwing out some vocabulary that is important then go onto an explanation of how to use those words.

Nice to meet you- はじめまして ha-hi-me-me-shi-te

(No true English definition) I look forward to talking with you (formal)-どぞよろしくおねがいします do-zo-yo-ro-shi-ku-op-be-ga-I-shi-ms-su

I look forward to talking with you (informal)- どぞよろしくdo-zo-yo-ro-shi-ku

Name- なまえ na-ma-e

What is your name? (Formal)-おなまえはなんですが？o-namae-ha-na-n-de-su-ka?

What is your name? (Informal)- おなまえは？o-na-make-e-ha (wa)?

Me/Mine/ My/I- わたしwa-ta-shi

My name is ~ (formal)- わたしのなまえ は~です wa-ta-shi-no-na-ma-e-ha(wa)-your name here- de-su

Country- くに ku-ni

America- アメリカ a-me-ri-ka
Japan- にほん ni-ho-n
Canada- カナダ ka-an-da
France- フランス fu-ra-n-su
Italy -イタリア I-ta-ri-a
India- インド I-n-do
China- ちゅうごくChyu-go-ku
Korea- かんこくka-n-ko-ku
Mexico- メシコ me-shi-co

I am~(enter country of citizenship ex; American, Mexican)- わたしは〜じんです wa-ta-shi-ha(wa)-~(insert country of citizenship)-ji-n-de-su

I am from (enter country you're from)- わたしは〜からです wa-ta-shi-ha(wa)-(enter country you're from)-ka-ra-de-su

Which- どちら do-chi-ra

To come from- きてます ki-te-ma-su

Typically you start of with saying こんにちは (konichiwa) or whatever greeting is appropriate for that time. It is optional to skip the greeting if you are being introduced to a person by another person. Then you move onto saying your name along with it's nice to meet you. Below is an example of a conversation on greetings in a formal setting.

Ken: こんにちは, はじめましてどうぞよろしくおねがいします。 (hello, it is nice to meet you, let's have good conversations from here on out. ko-n-ni-chi-ha(wa), ha-ji-me-ma-shi-te-do-u-zo-yo-ro-shi-ku-oo-ne-ga-I-shi-ma-su.)

Taka: こんにちは、はじめましてどうぞよろしくおねがいします。おなまえはなんですか？ (hello, it is nice to meet you. what is your name? ItKo-n-ni-chi-ha(wa), ha-hi-me-ma-shi-te-do-zo-yo-to-shi-ku-o-ne-ga-i-shi-ma-su-o-na-ma-e-ha(wa)-na-n-de-su-ka?

Ken: わたしのなまえはケンです。(my name is Ken. Wa-ta-shi-no-na-ma-e-ha(wa)-ke-n-de-su.)

Taka: わたしのなまえはたかです。どちらのくにからきてますか？(My name is Taka. Which country are you from? Wa-ta-shi-no-na-ma-e-ha(wa)-ta-ka-de-su. Do-chi-ra-no-ku-ni-ka-ra-ki-te-ma-su-ka?)

Ken: アメリカからです。(I am from America. A-me-ri-ka-ka-ra-de-su)

For an informal conversation, it is basically the same, the only difference would be words might be shortened.
