During Christmas break, which Matt and I's Christmas break was from Dec. 25 till May 31. Why? Because it snowed so much that the schools were closed. Brielle and Caroline began to crawl, Matt and I came closer to one another, and I'm starting second grade.

The next day the snow disappeared into mush and we went to school. Matthew went into high school so he would stay later in the day until three and I would get out of school at two thirty. My teacher is nice and Austin and the others stopped protecting me. They actually became like brothers to me. Except when they almost got kidnapped from right from underneath my nose.

We were walking home from school laughing and making fun of our teacher when a black van pulled up and three creepy guys jumped out. We beat them with our backpacks then we ran to my house where we collapse on the floor. My heart was pounding in my chest. We all group hugged and I felt someone tug at my pant leg. My friends let go of me and I stared at my sister who held her arms up to me. I picked her up and she rested her head against my shoulder.

"Aw. Looks like Brielle missed her big brother," dad said. "You boys need to go home. Adam has work he needs to do."

Austin and the others hugged me then they left. I set Brielle down and stared at dad. What kind of work? I wondered as I went closer to dad. He led me to the kitchen where I helped him clean up and I helped him dust the living room until Matt came home. I ran to him smiling and held my arms open and my smile faded when he didn't hug me back. He had a black eye, a cut on his cheek, and Matt was crying. The last time I saw him cry was when I almost died.

"Matty what happened?" I asked.

Matt removed his backpack, shuffled his feet towards dad, and rested his head against dad's chest. I saw Matthew's body shaking and I knew he's crying harder.

"Matthew-"

"Shut up Adam!" Matt suddenly yelled as he rushed towards me. "I just found out that my parents are alive somehow and they want me back! I don't wanna go back. I like it here with you, Brielle and Caroline! Just...just leave me alone!"

Then Matthew ran upstairs sobbing and I stood there in shock. Dad sighed heavily, mom came in, and my sisters started crying. Out of a sudden and random burst of anger, I kicked of them and they shut up. My parents yelled at me and I was sent to my room after I got spanked. I wasn't crying. I was planning on running away.

As I walked up the stairs, I went past Matt's room where I heard him swearing like a sailor. That's when I went to my own room and stayed there until dinner time. And that's when I wished I never came out of my room.
