Can was completely, utterly miserable. He had never before felt this sad. He kept staring at the missed call on his phone. He felt guilty. The one time Tin needed him, he wasn't there. What type of lover was he?
A fucking inconsiderate one! Guilt was eating him from the inside out. He began to loose weight rapidly as he stopped eating. Ma and Ley were panicking. Can had never, ever stopped eating before. He was pale. Ma kept trying to stick a thermometer in his mouth, convinced he was physically sick.
Finally, two weeks after Tin's father shot his step mother, Can broke and told his family that he had no boyfriend. Ley giggled in relief and Ma hit the back of her head so hard, she stumbled into Dad's lap. Dad pushed her to the floor in disgust.
"Lemon," Dad said, sternly, "I've had enough of your selfish behavior. Leave. And if I catch you eavesdropping, you won't be living here any longer." Ma nodded in agreement.
Ley's mouth dropped with shock. She wasn't giggling because Can and Tin broke up! She wasn't that mean. It was only because Can was broken hearted! That was an easy fix in her books. Time would fix all broken hearts. As she trudged up the stairs, she realized that it was her own fault. Her own behavior made Ma and Dad misunderstand.
They think I'm still jealous! Ley hung her head. She had to help Can, prove to him, not to mention Ma and Dad, that this had nothing to do with Tin!
Ma held Can tightly. Dad sighed. "Tin won't talk to you since that debacle with his father?"
Can blushed. "I, ah, broke up with him before that. He stopped talking to me before that, so I dumped him. He called the night of the shooting but I was too drunk to answer. Now I don't know what to do." Big fat tears slid down his thin cheeks.
"He left a message with Ae. It basically said I love you and leave me alone." Can buried his face in Ma's chest and his shoulders heaved. Muffled, "It feels wrong. I need him, Ma!"
Dad patted his back. "Boy, it's been only been a few weeks. Things have to settle down into a routine for Tin first. Then, gather up your courage and call him. You won't know anything until you do."
Can's phone ran on the table and Dad reached for it. "It's Ae." Can stretched out his hand and took the phone.
"Hello? No, Ae," His voice was listless, "I'm not going out tonight." He hung up and slid out of Ma's embrace. "I think I'll lie down. Thanks for listening."
Ma sighed, "Dad, if things don't improve, we will need to do something."
"What, Ma?"
"You leave Can to me. I'm leaving Lemon to you. I've had enough of her selfishness. There's only so much I can take." Ma stood and went to the kitchen to start on a supper that no one really wanted to eat.
Tin stood in his office, of the company he created. Mint and the senior lawyer looked at him, mouths open. "Look, its not difficult. I need you to draft the proposal and have it in place by the end of the week."
Mint had a nervous habit. It was in full swing right now. Her index finger on her right hand was furiously tapping her front teeth. "Tin, but why? Why are we writing consolidation papers and then giving 40% shares to Tul? Especially after everything he did to you? Also, do you know how hard it is to have it outlined that he must, in perpetuity, remain ownership of 25% of those shares?"
The older lawyer simply said, "Give me a good reason first, and then I'll do it."
Tin nodded, "You want a reason? Fine, Tul and I have solved our differences. I don't want or need Medthanan Industries. I am happier here, but I have to own Medthanan as per Grandmother's will. Fine, but nothing stops me from GIFTING part to Tul. Then he can run it. I want his son to inherit, if I have no offspring. That's the 25% shares he holds on to."
Both lawyers nodded. Mint sighed. "I still think you shouldn't do this. The reporters will have a field day over your sanity."
Tin shrugged. "They already are over all of us Medthanan Men. I don't care."
Mint nodded and stood. "I'll start the first draft." She left and the older lawyer, who was fast becoming a rock in Tin's life, sat and sighed.
"So, Sir, have things settled down yet?"
Tin shook his head slowly. "No, not really. I'm staying at grandmother's house. The reporters don't know where it is. I thought of a hotel, but they'd find me too fast. Tul and Pha haven't left the estate in weeks. Only staff are coming and going."
Tin laughed. "You are brilliant, though. Your suggestion of charges worked. Reporters aren't harassing the help anymore. My butler is with me now, and my life is easier." Tin sat down and crossed his legs.
Lawyers forgotten, images and mysteries flashed through Tin's mind.
He didn't know how much he had changed. There was nothing left of the boy in him. He, too, had thinned dramatically. Now, all lean muscle, sharp angles brought out the manliness of his face. His eyes were hooded all the time, allowing no expression on his face. Even when he laughed, you were never really sure, was he laughing just to be polite?
The Prince, no, not Prince anymore, but King of Ice was back.
Between the three lawyers, his father's personal lawyer, the one man that came with the company and Mint, the transition to running Medthanan Industries and his own company was so smooth, most employees didn't even notice the changeover.
Tin was giving Tul a 3 month leave of absence to pull himself together. After their talk, Tul had a breakdown. The following morning, Nanny had called, saying she needed help. By the time Tin arrived, Tul had the cook's knife ready to cut his wrists - in front of his son!
The cook, and Nanny were desperately trying to talk the drunk and hallucinating Tul to give them the knife. Tin just physically knocked him down and took it from him. Then called in the psychiatrist his father had sent him to for years, because he had been labeled antisocial.
Tul didn't even know that drinking too much could cause hallucinations. He did now. He had the maids and Tapi search the house from top to bottom and cleared out every drop of alcohol. Tul had been obviously drinking a lot longer than even Father had been aware of.
He hated the fact that he was opening his heart up to the brother that, for so many years, had tortured him. He hated so many things right now. There were still mysteries to solve, like this Gonhin. And why he was sent away. Father didn't have any problems with his sexuality, so that wouldn't have bothered him with Tul.
A deep sigh escaped him. "I need to find you."
"Find who?" The elderly lawyer asked.
A chuckle escaped, "I had forgotten you were here. A man who worked at the mansion about 10 years ago. His name was Gonhin."
The lawyer leaned forward. "I can find him. But are you telling me you don't know the story of Gonhin? It was in all the papers at the time."
"How would I know? I was in England, in boarding school."
"Ah, well, lets see. Excuse me, if I get some details wrong. I will pull all the articles and have it on your desk tomorrow. For now," The lawyer scrunched his eyebrows. "Gonhin kidnapped Tul, and kept him for almost 2 weeks before he was caught. Someone either hypnotized or blackmailed him into doing it, it's not clear which. That person was never caught. Gonhin was sentenced to a short stay in prison."
Tin nodded. "Thank you." It was obvious that Tul did not know, otherwise why would he want this Gonhin? Was seeing him again the right move?
