CHAPTER FOUR

AFTER STEALING THE CAR, the women all sat in silence while Natasha drove. This sure wasn't Ivanna's first time being in a situation like this. She could remember only a few years prior when Steve "borrowed" a truck or all of the stolen vehicles she, Natasha, and Clint went through. Sitting in the backseat she made sure they had plenty of supplies for what was to come.

"You know, this is the first piece of clothing I've ever bought for myself," Yelena said proudly and hooked her fingers under the vest she was wearing.

Ivanna looked up to her with a raised eyebrow. She smiled faintly, admiring the vest as she watched Yelena, "What, that?"

Natasha chuckled, "What is that...an army surplus, or?"

Yelena shot the other two an annoyed look, "It has a lot of pockets, okay?"

Ivanna laughed and leaned back in her seat while shaking her head. She pulled her hair over her shoulder, fixing the braid it was tied into as she furthered her inquiry, "A lot of pockets?"

"Yes," Yelena stated like it was obvious, which it was, "and I use them all the time, and I've made some of my modifications."

"Oh yeah?" Natasha questioned, laughing.

"Whatever. Shut up," Yelena sat back in her seat with a pout, "The point is, I've never...I've never had control of my own life before, and now I do. I want to do things."

"As long as those things don't lead you to be one of the most wanted criminals," Ivanna mumbled in a singsong tone. Natasha sent a look back at her in the mirror, and Ivanna shrugged. She stared out the window, watching the passing streets as the conversation in the front seat continued. She felt guilty. For leaving Steve high and dry the way she did. She wished she could reach out to him, fix it. Tell him that she's okay, just chasing ghosts, and that she'll be back soon. But it wasn't that easy. To reach out to Steve well...it would be to compromise him, Bucky. Or herself, as well as Natasha and Yelena. That seemed far riskier than destroying the Red Room and returning to life on the run.

Ivanna's focus returned to the conversation in the front seat when Yelena turned to face both her and Natasha, a guilty look on her face as she shook her head, "I don't know where the Red Room is. I'm sorry."

Ivanna shook her head, offering Yelena a smile as she met Natasha's gaze in the rearview mirror, "Don't be. We know someone who does."

A brief look of confusion crossed Yelena's features while understanding met Natasha's. She nodded, already reaching for her burner phone, "We're going to need a jet."
