Clara~

River had been acting really weird all day and I didn't know how to take it. I had only just met him yesterday and he is completely different today. Maybe something about me gives him little sister vibes and makes him feel like he needs to protect me? I'm really not sure what is going on. We don't know each other well enough for me to know if this is weird behavior for him or not.

My feet carried me back to the table and I smiled as I sat down next to Brent again. River slowly sat down next to me.

"Everything okay you two?" Brent asked while watching me. He was trying to figure the situation out, but I was too so I don't think he was going to get much out of his question.

"Yeah I just wanted to talk to River about my bike. I forgot to get it from him after school yesterday." Obviously a lie, and everyone knew it. Why would I talk to him about that in private? I have always been such a terrible liar.

I looked towards River and smiled uncomfortably, begging him for help.

"So, Clara, can I take you home from school today?" He asked casually.

"Oh, uh actually I'm okay with riding my bike." I replied quickly, trying to figure out how to avoid being in a car with him.

"Is your ankle okay though?" He asked, he looked genuinely concerned. I thought about it for a moment, my ankle really did still hurt quite a bit, maybe even more today.

"Okay, I guess I'll take you up on that offer." I decided to say, it couldn't hurt to let my friend take me home from school. He isn't creepy, just a bit protective.

"Hey Clara, do you have any siblings? Like a hot sister or something?" Alex asked. The guys at the table all chuckled. I rolled my eyes.

"No buddy, it's just my mom and I." I said with a shake of my head.

"Oh, so you have a hot mom?" I saw Victoria walk up as the words left his mouth.

"Actually, yeah she does. Her mother is lovely really, I guess Clara here takes after her dad more." Ouch. I hated hearing people mention my dad, the jab at my appearance wasn't that big of a deal to me though. That I could handle.

"Yeah, and Victoria's mom is such a sweet woman. Really, I can't figure out where Vicky here got her bad attitude from." I said before I even realized what I was saying. Oh shit. Victoria was staring at me with her jaw hanging open a little.

"Careful Vic, you might catch some flies if you leave your mouth open like that." Brent said with a smirk.

The bell rang to end lunch and I got up quickly. I was ready to get out of there.
