Chen Ya-wen

Interview with Roman Crawley

Date: -March 1st

Duration: - 30 minutes

Location: -Edgewood College Auxiliary Office

No. of Pages: -2

March 1st, 5 AM. I am Detective Chen Ya-wen of the Broadwater branch and I speak with Roman Crawley. Will you state your full name?

"Why? You just said it."

It's needed for the records.

"Fine. I am Roman Crawley."

I know you've already answered a few informal questions but please, could you elaborate on the situation? Do you know what might've happened.?

"I was with them up in the Tower, then Sylvi came and I left with Archer. We were downstairs, only came back after the screaming started. This is idiotic, you do know that, don't you? How am I supposed to have any useful information? The least you could do is drag me in here for something I actually had something to do with."

The school has quite a bit on all of you. It says here you have multiple infractions against you. They seem to stack up.

"Some of my many great accomplishments. Oh, don't give me that look I'm no delinquent. The world simply seems to have a problem with me. Most of those are for little things- sleeping in the courtyard, caught AWOL, instigating a brawl between two students where the police had to get involved, little things."

I think I remember that.

"I'd be insulted if you didn't."

And this is all before the official time you joined the Kingsmen. You were friends with Samuel Webb for many years?

"We held the illusion of friendship for many years, yes."

Illusion?

"I didn't kill him if that's what you're hoping to lead to. I had no reason to."

But you knew Samuel for a large part of your life. His death must still affect you.

"Of course it does. It was so... unexpected. Doesn't seem real. Even after I saw him at the bottom of the Tower and watched the paramedics roll him out covered in that white sheet- I didn't believe it. Samuel was supposed to be unkillable."

I'm sorry for your loss.

"Don't pity me.  I know he was mortal, I just didn't fully realize what meant... You don't understand. You never saw him the way we did."

You're getting a bit red. Would you like a glass of water?

"Yes, thank you. I haven't had anything in my body all day. Samuel had us all up in the dead of night."

Any specific reason why?

"No idea. I was 'summoned,' then Sylvia came in and clocked him. Quite entertaining."

She punched him?

"Square in the jaw. He bit his tongue, started spitting blood. Looked half mad if you ask me. It was so funny, the look on his face. No one's ever hit him before. I think it was justly deserved."

That's a strange thing to say about a friend who just passed.

"I suppose it is. I'm incriminating myself aren't I? Well, since it's already on record- I like to think it was everything finally catching up to him that caused the fall. It's easier to swallow than he just tripped and fell."

Everything catching up to him?

"He was no saint. We all knew that. He was like Lucifer, only he never fell, well, until now. But when I think back on Samuel, that's the image my mind conjures."

Comparing your deceased friend to Satan is not the way to get out of here quickly, Mr. Crawley.

"If I'm here already I might as well make a day of it." [Microphone feedback]

Mr. Crawley, put that down. Mr. Crawley-

He had a vice. Samuel Webb loved keeping secrets. Though they were never his own- just ask Anthony. Keep that for the records." [Feedback. Static whine]

...End recording.
