Blood-stained palms and calloused fingers became the new normal when the world abruptly ended. Brave Marley Whitman chose to fight. She watched the people around her fall, one by one, like a bundle of swatted flies. Buildings went up in high-rising, golden flames. Thick tendrils of smoke slithered across Atlanta's starry night sky. The undead sinisterly clawed their way out of deep graves and yellow body bags, unleashing hell upon what was left of earth. Still, despite the terrifying ruination, Marley stood tall.
There was hope, after all. This couldn't be it. Marley knew this wasn't truly the end of everything. There had to be a way out — a cure, if anything. A chance.
And so Marley clung on to that fading slither of hope for as long as she possibly could, cradling it in her arms, begging it to stay . . . until the day reality came thundering down in a heavy storm and showed her exactly what she didn't want to see.
No chance of ever escaping this never-ending turmoil of death.
