Water dripped down the side of the cave, soft like rain.

Drip, drop. Drip drop.

It was so incessant, so constant, that it annoyed Morro. He shouldn't have been so angry, so filled with hatred when you were looking up at him like that. But how could he allow his defenses to fall when you were offering him your all?

It didn't matter how many times Morro tripped and messed up because you were so bloody faithful to him and only him. That unwavering confidence will be your downfall, thought Morro. It would surely crush you the moment you came to terms with the fact that there was no going back and that no matter what Morro did, he'd still be a bad person.

But what even defined someone as bad? Morro didn't know, and whenever he stacked up the courage to ask, you would smile and say there was no such thing as 'good' and 'bad' in a world where the lines always crossed and blurred into gray.

You placed a gentle hand to Morro's cheek with a shaky breath. It was cold against his warm cheeks, icy.

"It's alright," you serenely said. "You'll be okay."

Morro's breath hitched and he placed a quivering hand to the cold cave walls. What was with you? How could you stay so calm when he was about to burst? Maybe it was the stupidly sweet look on your face, or the annoying smile that made his anger wash away.

Whatever it was made Morro's heart race.

"It's not okay because I could have killed you." he seethed. "Why do you care so much about...about a monster?" You smiled and Morro's heart clenched unbearably tight. A laugh left your lips, but it was strained and quiet. "I didn't chase you all the way here for you to reject me. I'm not going to leave either."

That was straight up nonsense. Morro sucked his teeth and turned away as your hand fell from his warm cheek.

"Don't kid yourself. There are better people worth your time, (Y/n). Leave already."

You remained serene, unaffected by his chilly attitude. Whatever drew you to him was intoxicating. Like your favourite dessert, you couldn't get enough of no matter how much you fought it. "Morro," your voice was low, "why do you think I care so much?"

The boy shrugged and leaned farther into the cave wall. It was the least he could do to lengthen the distance when you were so unbearably close. "You're drunk on dreams and what could have been." he lamely muttered. "I'm not saying I'm giving up on righting my wrongs, just that you should find someone--"

"Better?" you cut in. A frown pulled on your lips, threatening to turn into a scowl. "Morro, don't you get it?" There's a world of hurt in your voice he can't shake. It makes his stomach twist and his insides churn uncomfortably. What was that tug in his chest? The tight, suffocating feeling as you loomed over him?

You quickly yanked a fistful of Morro's gi with a huff. How stupid was this boy? Sure, you loved him, but he was as dense as a rice cake. "I've chased you for years, I've never ever given up on you when so many people have. Don't you understand--?"

"No." he blankly stated. "I don't get it. All you're doing is chasing something that'll never happen."

For a moment, your serene facade fell. That world of hurt in your voice rose to your face, where your shining eyes broke into brittle fractions of starlight. You heaved in a breath and held tighter to his gi. "You don't really mean that, Morro." A tight smile painted across your lips. "I know you and--"

"Do you?" Morro harshly countered. He raised a brow, as if he didn't fully believe you. "Everyone says they know me, but I'm afraid no one does. We were never friends, okay? We...we're nothing." A part of him wanted to hold back his tongue, but how could he when you would be better off without him? It was better hurting you now so you wouldn't suffer a life of misery.
