My classes were slow that day, my mind completely revolving around Nathaniel's words. It's not until lunch has started and I'm sitting in the cafeteria when I'm forced out of my mind and back into the real world. A high-pitched laugh being the cause of it.I look over to the wolf side where Mila is currently laughing in such a way that I see myself and the vampires wincing at the sound. She's currently hanging off of the arm of Lucian - like she has been all week. He's not paying her much mind, instead of eating his burger like it takes all his attention to do so.
I haven't seen Cedric much since the incident something that my mind is grateful for but my stupid heart aches every time I don't see him coming around the corner in the hallway or sitting in our shared history class. I shake the thought from my mind, he nearly killed me. I shouldn't be this obsessed with him.
My mind is preoccupied it takes me a moment to realize that Lucian has looked up, right into my eyes and a zag of sadness feels his.
Before I can force my eyes away Mila seems to notice his attention away from her and her loud cronies because she sends me a death glare before straightening her shoulders. God this can't lead to anything good. I look away back at my meal and try to ignore her. It doesn't work.
"God is hard enough to eat with those bloodsuckers sitting in here but now we have to eat with a human." She says the word like it's something disgusting she has to spit out of her mouth. Her friends all hum in approval.
"My parents sent me here so I wouldn't be around humans. God, my father is not going to like this." One of the girls from the classroom quickly adds. I roll my eyes at them before grabbing my tray and walking away. I feel all eyes on me as I do so but I ignore them and continue on my way.
I hear her coming before I see her, Mila standing beside the dirty trays, placing her own down in front of me.
She turns slowly with a fake smile on her face. God, I don't want to deal with this right now.
"Great lunch ... um god I know your name." She puts her finger to her chin pretending to think before shrugging her shoulders. "No I honestly can't remember, I think I'll just call you human." Again she spits the word out.
I take a deep breath, calming myself before stepping around her and placing my tray on top of hers.
"Just don't call me at all," I tell her, I hear her snarl but then another shadow is over us, taking his plate to the trays Lucian.
I don't look at him, just back up a little from him allowing him to place his tray but also getting away from the warmth of his body that threatens me into accepting him and his wolf's problem.
No, I can't do that, I have to remind myself and take another step away. Glaring up at both of them.
Lucian watches me with a hurt expression falling onto his face before Mila comes over to him and places her arm into his. He doesn't brush her off but he does finally look away from me.
"Lucian I can't seem to remember what this human's name is, do you?" She looks up at him, her eyes wide and she's probably trying to give him some puppy dog eyes but he isn't looking at her.
His eyes are on me again and this time I hold his as well. Mila glares at me again.
"Her name is Morgan, Mila stops being so childish." He nods at me once before ripping his arm from Mila and walking out of the cafeteria, everyone watches him go, even the vampires. They all smirk amongst themselves before their eyes hit me again.
"I haven't even started yet," Mila tells me a hiss in her voice as she tries to hold in her anger. I roll my eyes and start walking away.
"We shall see," I tell her as I exit the room, letting the doors close behind me before I take a deep calming breath. I shouldn't push her, she's already shown that here I have no protection, unlike her with that stupid pack mentality that the wolves will instantly protect them for.
