Chapter 16 - Champions and Two Ex Ice Skaters

Y/N POV:

We were all back in Minnesota now, even those who lived in other states, to celebrate our victory a little more quietly.

I was seated next to Kenny at the bonfire. We were still friends, even though I had a massive crush on him. But that was okay with me for now, I don't want to rush things.

"Ah! Help!" Goldberg suddenly yelled as he held a marshmallow that was completely on fire.

"You're not supposed to light it on fire!" Charlie exclaimed as they quickly shoved the marshmallow into the dirt and put out the fire. We all laughed at Goldberg's usual antics as Dwayne started strumming his guitar.

"You're really living the stereotype aren't you?" I asked Dwayne.

"I actually live in Texas," Dwayne told me as we all snickered at Dwayne's confusion as to what I meant.

"I've paid my dues. Time after time," my brother sang.

"I've done my sentence. But committed no crime," we sang as I joined him.

"And bad mistakes. I've made a few. I've had my share of sand kicked in my face, but I've come through," everyone joined.

"And we go on and on and on and on," we continued as Kenny wrapped a tentative arm around my shoulder, which I embraced, pulling his arm tighter around me.

"We are the champions, my friends. And we'll keep on fighting till the end. We are the champions. We are the champions. No time for losers 'cause we are the champions of the world!" we sang dramatically at the finish.

We spent the rest of the night having fun, singing, and behaving like kids. I was really gonna miss the new recruits, especially Kenny and Julie. I promised to call them as often as I could and Julie and I planned on exchanging letters.

I never would have guessed how much these games would have changed my life, I met amazing people, made some new friends, and developed my first crush. I guess two ex-ice skaters make a pretty good pair.
