Charles was sitting on his chair, head on his desk, minding his own business until classes were to start, before he heard a loud screech. It wasn't uncommon in his school; there were people always playing and fooling around before classes started. He liked his school - no one really bothered him much since everyone knew he didn't like to be bothered; most of the teachers were nice (emphasis on most) and the whole place had a good atmosphere. Of course, like any other school, it had its own gossips and rumors, but he didn't pay attention to any of it as none of it concerned him.
He saw his best friend, Simon, enter the classroom and watched him as he sat next to Charles. He didn't say much, which, again, wasn't unusual - he would've spent all night writing the story he'd been working on for a long time and wouldn't have gotten a blink of sleep. He lazily turned his head around to see the other side of the class and thought about how the rest of the year would turn out. The first semester had gotten over, and the second one had started two days ago, and he wasn't ready yet to finish another year of school. Would he make more friends? (Or was it too late now?) Would he finally be able to talk to people other than Simon and Madeline? Would his crush-
Lost in his thoughts, he was pretty surprised when he heard the same screech once again. Curiosity took over his laziness as he slowly tilted his head towards the source of the sound, and there, behind the door, he found a small head with ruffled brown hair. The boy was trying to catch his breath while at the same time, trying to kick his friend for a reason Charles didn't know.
He watched as the boy came in, his face bright red at the sudden attention he got from everyone in class. He watched as the same boy went over to his seat and put his head down in embarrassment. Without even knowing it, Charles's mouth left out a soft chuckle which didn't go unnoticed by Simon. If Madeline was here, she would've definitely not been as quiet as him and would've embarrassed the hell out of Charles.
Simon raised an eyebrow. Charles rolled his eyes and went back to staring at the boy who just walked in. Samuel. The cute boy with chocolate brown hair, which he knew would be soft to the touch and pretty, round, almond shaped eyes. His big blue hoodie swallowed his small figure up and he looked more adorable than he'd ever had to Charles, and Charles swore that he'd go squish the boy's cheeks right then and there if he wasn't who he was - an introvert who didn't know how the whole "talking thing" worked - and, of course, if he wasn't at the start of his class. Who knew when the teacher might walk in and witness a comparatively big guy squishing another boy's cheeks.
Sam had started to furiously tap at his phone. He's probably texting his friend, June, who he was trying so hard to kick, he thought. It had become a habit of his to lose track of time staring at Sam; he couldn't stop thinking about how pretty the boy was, how cute, how innocent, how-
"Oh my god, Charlie, stop doing that. Do you have any idea how creepy you look?"
Simon and Madeline, both knew about his extremely big crush on Sam, as they had tolerated him when he couldn't stop gushing about him - how pretty and beautiful he was, how generous and helpful, how innocent he looked, how lucky Charles was to share a class with him, etc.
"You know it... Look at him, how pretty can someone be?" he rhetorically asked, dramatically sighing.
He could've started venting about his crush yet again, but the teacher had entered. He let out a groan as he positioned himself properly and got ready for his first class - math.
