If that bastard ‘Mr. Dominique’ ever showed up, I was going to ring his neck! Abigail at the front desk said he would show up two hours ago! It was now 8:47 P.M. The lobby was empty, and dead silent besides every now and then when Abigail would answer the phone.
“That asshole is lucky that he didn’t show up because if he did I would plunge a knife so deep in his neck that it would go right through!” I ranted to Max who was still sitting patiently on the sofa. I was pacing back and forth through the lobby. Abigail seemed to be finding it very amusing. I was not. “Or, I would grab my heel and stab him in the eyes… repeatedly!” I was really mad. I had being yelling out open threats to this empty room for the past ten minutes. “God! He must think he’s so great,” I hissed. “With his perfect company, and his perfect suite, and his perfect car, and his perfect private jet!” I exploded, on the verge of hysterics. “If he ever dares to show his face to me I swear I’m gunna rip out his-”
A throat cleared from behind me, making me yelped and jump back. The most beautiful man I had ever seen. He was wearing a crisp black suite, with a classy black tie. He had brown hair which was sticking up all over the place in a sexy way. My breathing hitched as I stared at the man who was standing a mere foot away from me.
“I must be the lucky man who you were threatening to rip something out of.” His expression stayed mutual while he spoke. Even and smooth. Rich and suave. Deep and luscious.
“Uh- I didn’t- um…” I heard rustling behind me, making me whip around to face Max.
“Zoe, meet Mr. Dominique.” Max sent me a toothy grin.
“Pleasure,” The hansom demon spoke lowly from behind me. “But may I ask what you’re doing here? Or better yet, why you’re threatening me?” His dark obsidian eyes held a consumed anger. His jaw was strong and clenched, while his chin was tilted up in pure confidence. It was revolting.
“May I ask why we were told you were going to show up over an hour ago?” I asked, glaring, while placing a hand on his hip. His eyes darkened, looking black.
“Excuse me for being unaware that I had a meeting. I was preoccupied.” My gaze went to Max’s and he looked sheepish.
“I thought you said he knew?”
“Look, man,” Max started, turning towards Mr. Dominique. “I know you need help with small tasks and stuff, and Zoe here needs a job, and I told her you wanted help, and-”
“You what?” He asked, narrowing his eyes to slits. Oh no.
“Look, whatever. Don’t blame him. I was foolish for thinking I could get a job. I understand.” I grabbed Max’s hand. “Come on Max, I don’t want to waste any more time here.” I marched out, my heels clicking against the hard wood flooring. Max seemed reluctant to leave but soon followed close behind.
“Zoe, was it?” I halted, hearing Max huff from behind me. Slowly, I turned around, to see the Devil watching us with an annoyed expression. “What was it exactly that you thought you would be doing here?” I shrugged.
“I just thought you needed help with personal stuff.” He raised a brow.
“How personal do you mean?” My cheeks flushed with striking embarrassment, yet before I could open my mouth, he spoke again. “You can start tomorrow, four o’clock sharp. Don’t be late.” He called over his shoulder as he walked across the room to a glass elevator. I watched as he turned and stared into my eyes. He never broke eye contact while he pressed the button, and the elevator doors closed, blocking our stare off.
“Asshole.” I muttered under my breath as I started walking with Max hot on my heels. There was no way I’d be going there tomorrow.
It took us a total of fifteen minutes to get back to Max’s house, where I took my car, and drove the remaining five minutes to our apartment. It was walking distance, but there was no way I was going to walk like fifteen minutes straight in heels.
