"Stop it! There's a way out of here!" Adam cried, watching the Dr hold the hacksaw to his ankle before beginning to saw. Blood immediately spilt from the gash, puddling on the floor underneath his leg; his trouser leg soaking up the dark liquid like a sponge.

"Lawrence, stop it! Stop!" he continued to cry as Lawrence's muffled screams rang in his ears, echoing through the long bathroom. Blood splattered across the Dr's face, the colour draining from his skin, making him look pale and ill. Adam held his dirty hands over his ears and squeezed his eyes shut at a desperate attempt to shut out the noise of the saw cutting through flesh and bone and the sound of Larry's cries.

The blade rattled as it hit the ground and Adam opened his eyes, staring as Larry's lower calf seperated from his foot, freeing him from the shackle. Adam felt the blood drain from his face and a feeling of pure disgust and sickness flood over him, causing him to lean over and puke, emptying the small amount of food in his stomach.

"Adam...you have to die," the doctor whispered. Adam quickly looked up, to see the doctor grasping a gun in his hand, quivering on the floor. Both of them shook slightly; Adam out of fear, Larry out of shock.

"Its not me that did this to you!" Adam whimpered, holding his hands in front of his face. "I wanna live! I wanna live!" he cried, constantly moving on his feet, despite his limited access due to the chain around his ankle. Adam's heart hammered in his chest, his hands shaking rapidly in front of his face.

"I'm sorry," Larry gasped, poorly aiming and shooting the pistol grasped in his hand. The bullet hit Adam's shoulder, blood seeping immediately from his wound, staining his white shirt red. Adam fell back onto the dirty floor, grasping his injured shoulder in his hand, crying out in agony. Larry soon pulled his way over, leaving a dark red trail of blood in his wake. They came face to face on the floor, despite the pain they had caused each other, they gripped desperately at each others arms, searching for some kind of comfort.

Adam's eyes met Larry's, pain flooding in them. Adam held onto the doctor's arm tightly, not wanting to let him go.

"I'll go and g-get help," muttered Larry, nodding at Adam, trying to offer some kind of comfort in the situation they were in.

"Don't leave me." Adam cried, unable to stop Larry as he turned, pulling himself again across the floor. His trouser leg moved, exposing his stump where he severed his own leg. Blood still squirted from his leg, yet he turned around, facing the man he just shot.
"I'll come back for you, I promise." It seemed Larry had a small smile on his lips before pulling himself away, leaving Adam screaming by himself in the bathroom.

Larry managed to pull himself around the winding corridors, crying out when his wound dragged across the rough floor beneath him. Adam's screams still echoed, giving Larry the determination he needs to continue moving, desperate to help the boy in the bathroom. His heart ached, not from the physical pain but from the sadness that flooded over him. He almost wept as the image of the boy flooded his mind, clutching his shoulder. He felt a need to protect the boy, not hurt him.

He dragged himself around the maze of dark, dirty corridor until he could hear the hammering of heavy rain on a rooftop- a sound he could never imagining being so freeing. Larry continued going, despite the slowing of his heartbeat and the constant shivers that kept overtaking him.

Weakness rushed over him, his arms almost giving out as he struggled to hold his head up.

Steps- he came to a bunch of steps. A relief washed over him, his only concern was having enough energy to climb them. The pain of his severed leg was practically numbed- reduced to a dull throbbing. His hands gripped at the cobblestone steps, his fingernails cracking with the force that he pulled himself up with. The sound of the rain got louder as he climbed higher, yet the only thing on his mind was saving Adam otherwise he would have let himself die. Larry was somehow attracted to the boy, it was something about Adam that made his feelings grow.

He reached the final step, forcing open the metal doors that were locking him underground. The cold rain rushed over him, pouring down his face and soaking his shirt in a matter of seconds. The evening sun still hurt Larry's eyes as he adjusted. He pulled himself out. Sharp stones cut at his skin but a laugh escaped his mouth. He was free. He had done it. He had passed the test. All he had to do now was save Adam.

The rain mixed with the blood, leaving a more highlighted trail behind him. He began to shiver more, his skin no longer pale as it gathered a blue tint to it.

He found it harder to draw breaths, his lungs felt as if they were on fire as he desperately tried to gasp.

His last thought was Adam before the whole world went dark.
