A/N: i literally had to research to write this one- full dedication. also a little bit of a horror warning for all my scaredy cats out there, this one gets mildly spooky

"Damnit! Does somebody mind passing me another marshmallow." I huffed out disappointedly, flinging my stick to the side to dislodge the black marshmallow hanging off the top.

"Oh my god no. If we keep giving you marshmallows after every time you burn one we won't have any left." Zoe scoffed while holding up the bag of marshmallows.

"You've lost your marshmallow privileges." Billie chimed in as she dangled her stick over the fire that had been built in the middle of a circle of stumps where they sat.

I sighed and dramatically kicked the snow on the ground before plopping down on my stump beside Claudia and Finneas who were enjoying their s'mores.

"But I've only had like, one- two tops!" I pouted towards Billie who was putting together another s'more for herself.

"That my friend, sounds like a you problem." Finneas laughed as he took the last bite of his snack, licking the gooey marshmallow from his fingers.

Billie walked towards me with a s'more in her hand. "Here, have this one." She offered as she held it out towards me.

I nodded at her thankfully and took it from her hands, wolfing it down in one bite.

"Wow. Did we forget to feed you today?" One of the councillors of the camp who was taking care of our school for the trip chuckled from behind me while he watched me wipe left over graham cracker from my cheek.

"Okay everybody, in your seats, in your seats." He instructed as he took a seat at the top of the circle on his own stump. "So since here at camp we are big on tradition... and there's nothing more traditional than telling scary stories around a campfire..."

There were some excited yips and a few gasps from the crowd of students who were sitting quietly around the fire, eager to hear what would come next.

"I will be telling you the story of the Wendigo." The councillor said mysteriously, pulling out a flashlight from his pocket and hovering it under his chin to create an ominous glow on his face.

"Oh please, I've heard this story a million times." Billie mumbled under her breath while crossing her arms, the sound of her snow pants and jacket crinkling opposing the silence of the others.

I scoffed as I heard her say this and turned my back to her to face Zoe. "How much you wanna bet we have to cradle her in order for her to fall asleep tonight."

Zoe laughed at this and joined in on the teasing. "Maybe even sing her a lullaby" she snorted.

"I can fucking hear you guys" Billie huffed. "And if anyone's needing a lullaby to sleep, it's her." Billie chuckled, pointing towards me.

I flipped her off and settled back into my seat.

"Has anyone heard the story of the Wendigo before?" The councillor asked, searching the crowd for any answers.

"I know it comes from like Native folklore, but that's about all I know." A voice from the other side of the circle replied.
