Human Anatomy
Professor Kira, 1108

I take a sip of my coffee, making my way into the classroom. I walk in to hear laughter and talking which makes me feel a little awkward; I don't want to interrupt anything.

"Good morning, Ms. May I introduce you to a good friend of mine?" Professor asks which I simply nod while putting my stuff down. I turn around to face both men. I feel as though I recognize the other man in the room, but I can't tell where from, plus his back is to me. "Great, Luna meet the new professor at our school, Dr. Brando."

I see the man turn around and in my mind, it was like slow motion. His gorgeous blonde hair and red eyes. That smirk...how could I ever forget?

I gulp and feel the burning of blood rushing to my cheeks as I walk closer to Dr. Brando. I don't know what to do, so I will just play dumb. "Hi, i-it's nice to meet you, Dr. Brando."

His smirk makes my stomach drop and my eyes glue themselves to his, so I can't look at his lips anymore. "It's my pleasure, Miss. What's your major, dear?"

My heart skips as I tell myself I misheard him calling me dear. "I'm hoping to be a BSN, but I'm only a sophomore so I'm still taking some basic courses," I explain as my nerves slowly calm.

"That's great, we need more people like you, especially in Yorknew. Did you hear of that Phantom Troupe attack? The ER was nearly packed."

"No, when did that happen?" I was taken aback, to put it lightly, I haven't heard of them being in the city from anyone, not even Jess.

"Last night, they attempted to raid a trade meeting. They were spotted a few days ago, but no one said anything I guess." The professor shrugs as Dr. Brando only looks at me.

"Oh that's horrible, was anyone injured?"

Brando nods with his eyes closed, "a few dozen of people were injured and killed, though it was not just another business, it was the mob."

Something in me was turned off by how he was talking so lowly about those people who were there. "It's still awful, even if it's the mob, some people are put in that situation out of desperation."

A chuckle leaves the doctor, "it's interesting that you feel such sympathy for those people..."

He has some nerve to look down at them like we're any better...hell, he works for a college! The college board is just as predatory and greedy as the mob.

"Let me ask you something. Would you feel the same way if someone close to you was hurt or killed by the mob?" His stare intensifies again, trying to read me.

"There would need to be a reason, there's a reason to everything. But to answer your question, I would be mad at that specific person or group, not the entire mafia, because only this one person or x amount of people did something. Like I said before, some people are not willingly there, needing a way out of their situations and the mob was the only one there. We have no idea what their point of view is. They could easily believe what they are doing is right. Who am I to judge a situation or person I don't know so harshly?"

A satisfied smile was the only reaction he gave for a while. "You have more empathy than me, I envy that..." His head drifts to the clock. "Well, I should get going, Kira, I will see you later. Luna, it was nice seeing you, I hope to bump into you again soon." He shakes my hand, making my hands feel like they have been shocked, why are his hands so overbearing to me? He quickly walks to the door. "Oh and Luna, think about taking a law class, I think it will be good for you."

"For some reason, I think that's biased." I retort and get laughter from both men.

"Well, that is because it is, I would love to debate you some time. Have a good day, sweetheart." The doctor was out the door before I could say 'you too'.

"He's nice." I think out loud still looking at where he once was.

"He most certainly is. Plus, a chick magnet, it's ridiculous. He is here because he couldn't stop being hit on by the students at his other job."

"Wow, what an awful situation. It must be so hard being a pretty boy." I say with the most obnoxious sarcastic tone I could do.

My professor laughs. "Well, it must be because he's here now."

. . .

The class flew by as anatomy usually does. Maybe it's because I don't have the thought to look at the clock while doing my lab work or it's because it's less at the desk type of work? Not sure, but whatever it is, it makes anatomy a surprisingly bearable class.

It's been a week since I spoke to Dr. Brando. However, that didn't mean he wasn't on my mind. He does seem like a cool guy, but something is weird about him- or maybe how I feel when I'm with him? It's off-putting, I've never felt it before.

Professor Kira announces we have to clean up and head out. So my group and I do just that, cleaning thoroughly but fast, after all, some of us got places to be. Whether it's another class, or for me, work. I say my goodbyes to my group and was about to leave when I hear from behind me, "could we talk for a minute?" I turn and see my professor.

"Sure thing, what's up?" I ask just for him to walk to his desk.

I follow and wait for him to talk. "You remember Dr. Brando, right?"

"Yeah, what about him?"

"He wants to see you, I guess he really likes you or is impressed by you." What? Why? Was my argument really that interesting? Or is it about that night on the train?

"Um, when?" I look at my watch, if only I could pause time, so I can get a damn break.

"I'm not too sure, but he asked me to give you his number so you guys can figure that out. He's very introverted, unless you really catch his eye, he doesn't care to know you so this is just as surprising to me as it is to you."

I need to stop showing so much expression, huh?

"Well, here is his number." He gives me a ten-digit number to put in my contacts.

"I got it now, thanks."

"Awesome, see you tomorrow!" He smiles and I do the same with a small wave.

Thirty minutes later, I end up at work, today being as dead as it was, I look at my phone. A debate in my mind of what to say or if to say anything at all gives me butterflies in my stomach. After minutes of much anxious-filled thought, I decided to not be such a baby and just say hello, it doesn't hurt to do so.

***-***-****

Hey, it's Luna, I was told by Professor Kira that you wanted to talk to me.

My thumb hovers over the send button for a minute that feels more like a day. When finally, my boss calls for me, snapping me out of my thoughts. With that, I hit send.
