The sky was tinted a beautiful orange, and the horses' breath formed tiny white puffs in the chilly twilight air.

Hoseok was packing the last utensils into the Saddleback of his horse while Yoongi went over some organisations with Jeongguk. Taehyung couldn't help but stiffly pat Vanya while asking himself if he was really about to do this.

Irene gently tapped the omega on his shoulder, a slight smile on her lips. "Are you excited for the journey?"

Taehyung just sighed, "I don't know. I feel like an intruder, to be honest."

The beta furrowed her brows, her tinted red lips morphing into a frown. "Why?"

"I wish I knew," Taehyung murmured, feeling foolish for voicing his doubts.

"If it's about all the rituals, there's no need to feel like that. After all, we all have the same roots." The beta gently brushed her fingers through Vanya's mane before looking at Taehyung with a tart look. "You'll be safer with Yoongi and Hoseok. Jeongguk and I will endure."

Taehyung just nodded, too timid about voicing his doubts any further.

"Are you set?" Hoseok then interrupted them, a warm smile on his lips. Taehyung knew that the healer probably read him like an open book. He had always been bad at hiding his emotions.

The older man then gently put his hand on Taehyung's shoulder, "Don't worry, it's a two-day journey to Aeranar. The paths are unexplored by the general public, so it's unlikely that we will be disrupted."

"And even if something should happen," Irene chimed back in, "Yoongi is a skilled fighter."

Hoseok just gasped, "What about me?"

Irene tried to stifle a giggle but eventually failed. "When was the last time you even sparred with someone?"

The healer just sighed in defeat but smiled. "I'm sure that Taehyung knows how to fend for himself."

The omega nodded, thankful that someone saw him for what he was. Not just the vulnerable omega prince that needs protection around the clock, he could very well get himself out of dire situations.

"We should leave."

Yoongi's sharp tone sent shivers down Taehyung's spine, but the omega just nodded his head and got onto his horse. After the events in Hoseok's alchemy room, Taehyung has been quite confused.

Yoongi seemed a little withdrawn. He was nothing like the alpha Taehyung saw at Lake Anda. Maybe it was the pressure of impending war or the uncertainty of it all, but the omega couldn't help but also blame it on himself.

"Let us leave before the sun wholly sets. The nights are cold, and dangerous beings wander the forests."

Yoongi's voice sounded firm and determined, in a way that made Taehyung feel small. It was hard to describe, but the way Yoongi's personalities switched was quite uncanny. He could be so friendly and caring, then turn distant and strict within the following sentence.
