Colton had just freshened up and taken a sip of his coffee when he heard the doorbell. Who could it be so early in the morning? His bed had finally arrived yesterday and for the first time in days he had a good night’s sleep. Muttering curses, he went to open the door. Why do people visit other people’s houses so early in the morning?  Couldn’t they sleep and let others too sleep in peace?

He opened the door and blinked seeing Victoria and Asher outside on his doorstep. He slapped his head to bring him to his senses and closed the door. He really need his coffee to bring him to his senses and stop him from hallucinating. He might be going crazy since he had been seeing Victoria everywhere, even in his dreams. Again the doorbell rang. He opened it and blinked twice when he saw that it really was Victoria and Asher. How could they be here? He pinched himself.

“Ouch!” he winced and gaped at a glaring and angry Victoria.

“Me and Asher have traveled all the way to your house and you’re closing your door on us?” she asked angrily. Colton scratched his head.

“Oh, you’re real? I thought that I was hallucinating,” he grinned, his heart bursting with happiness seeing a mad Victoria at his doorstep. Without waiting for him to invite her inside, Victoria shoved him aside and walked in pushing Asher’s stroller all along.

“Where’s the washroom?” she asked, looking around. Colton raised his eyebrow at her. What type of greeting was this? She suddenly appeared at his doorstep early in the morning looking for the washroom? She gave him no hugs, no kisses, no confessions of love, no explanation, nothing?

“What?” asked Colton with disbelief.

“I’m not in the mood for a joke, Colton. I sneaked out at 3 o’clock in the morning and I’m dying to pee,” she scowled at him. Colton’s jaws dropped to the floor. She sneaked out with her baby that early? Only to come to him?

“It’s straight down there,” he pointed out. “Leave Asher here with me,” he added looking a little proud of himself at having offered to babysit. He sucked at baby sitting yet he was trying to be responsible now. Wasn’t he great! Victoria rushed towards the washroom leaving Colton with Asher. After a few minutes she was feeling fresh and better and returned to the living room to find Colton sniffing Asher’s bu*t.

“What’s wrong? What are you doing?” she asked him curiously.

“His bu*t’s smelling. I can’t breathe. What do you feed him?” asked Colton. Victoria looked offended by his words.

“What does a month old baby have, Colton?” she asked him.

“How do I know? Milk and bananas?” he shrugged. Victoria rolled her eyes at him.

“No, only my milk. You’re a horrible dad, Colton!” She fumed but Colton grinned. He was Asher’s dad! So what was Victoria to him? He choked on his own spit.

“I need a bedroom to lay Asher and change him. Do you have a nursery?” she asked him. Colton shook his head.

“I have all empty rooms. Only one room has a bed so we would have to share. I’ll get a crib for Asher right away. The nursery will take a little longer to be readied,” he told her  walking towards his bedroom.  His whole body was alive with excitement. He wanted to know why Victoria had sneaked out of her home and come to him. Did she break off her wedding? Is she here for ever? He didn’t want to ponder over these questions but somehow he couldn’t get them out of his head.

“Fine, your bed will do. I’ll change him, feed him and put him to sleep right away,” she said, following Colton into his bedroom. It was sparsely furnished but the bed looked very comfortable. She walked out to get Asher’s suitcases. Colton helped her and brought all her luggage into his bedroom. Victoria changed and cleaned Asher and sat on the bed with him to feed him. Colton stood hypnotized, watching her deal with a baby for the first time in his life. She was an expert mom! In fact her body looked more ripe, more curvy and more delicious after childbirth and he just couldn’t wait to feel her in his arms. Victoria waited for Colton to leave the room so that she could feed Asher but the dumb guy just stood there, day dreaming.

“Colton, I need to feed Asher,” she reminded him.

“Okay. I’ll order a crib and baby bedding essentials from the nearest store,” he said, walking out of the room and closing the door after him. Victoria smiled at his cuteness. He really looked happy to see her although he didn’t show much. She fed him and gently put him to sleep. The poor baby had to undergo a five hour road trip with her! She placed cushions all around him and covered him nicely and went to take out her clothes. She really needed a shower.

Afternoon minutes, feeling much fresh, she came out wearing a pair of shorts and a blue lace top. Asher was still fast asleep and she was feeling ravenous. Going to the kitchen, she checked what was there to make breakfast with. Only a few eggs? Seriously?

She found some bread in the pantry and made scrambled eggs and toast, enough to feed the two of them. After five minutes, Colton returned and called out to her. Victoria rushed outside and saw him staggering under piles of groceries and food stuff. She quickly rushed forward and relieved him. They unloaded everything from his car, groceries, food items, essentials, baby care items, everything. Victoria smiled at his thoughtfulness. He had bought everything that they needed.

“Great, I think we have everything more or less. Come and have some breakfast,” said Victoria. Colton grinned and walked into the kitchen to see what she had made.

“The baby bedding and furniture will be delivered later. I ordered them online as the store hasn’t opened yet,” he told her. Victoria served the food and carried it to the table. “This looks delicious,” he said with a grin. Victoria was surprised to hear that. He was a master chef and she had just prepared scrambled eggs and toast!

“It’s nothing much. You didn’t have anything at home,” she said awkwardly. Colton smiled.

“I don’t need a delicacy, Victoria. It’s the thought that goes behind it that matters to me the most,” he said with his eyes flashing with emotion.

“I remember,” she said simply. Of course she remembered each and everything that he said to her. How could she forget? They were all she had thought about for the last few months.

“Won’t your fiancé come searching for you?” he asked with eyes clouded with a million  questions.

“He has disappeared without any contact for the past one month. I don’t need him in my life anymore,” she shrugged. Colton’s jaws dropped hearing that.

“Oh! Did you two fight?” he asked curiously.

“No, I snapped at him since you disappeared suddenly. Thankfully, he took the memo and left me for good,” said Victoria. Colton grinned to himself after hearing her. He was pleased that she was free now.

“So the wedding is off?” he asked eagerly. He had to be hundred percent sure. Victoria nodded.

“Yeah, I’m not going back,” she told him while chewing her food. Colton’s fork clattered to his plate as he gaped at her. She was the only woman in the world who could drop bombshells so casually.

“What? Are you shocked Colton?” she asked him with a sweet smile. Colton grinned at her cuteness.

“So are you telling me that you’re mine forever?” he asked, lifting an eyebrow at her.

“Yeah,” she said, looking up into his eyes. They were dark and dilated as if he couldn’t grasp that she really had come to him for good.

“I I don’t have words to tell you how happy you’ve made me, Victoria, “ he stammered. For the first time Colton Glenn was left speechless in his life.

“You bought a beautiful beach house just like the one I always dreamt of,” she told him. Colton smiled.

“It’s for you,” he simply said. “Remember, you told me about it on our first date?” he asked her. Victoria nodded.

“I remember everything,” she told him.

“Did you forgive me for hurting you?” he asked expectantly.

“Of course, Colton. Why else would I be here?” she asked with a grin. Colton felt his heartbeats accelerating with every passing second. If she had come to him forever, why wasn’t she kissing him or hugging him?

“I can’t believe this is for real. Make me believe that you’re here and that you’re mine,” he asked, lifting his eyebrow at her. Victoria grinned but shook her head.

Asher howled and Victoria got up to run over to the bedroom. Colton groaned. What perfect timing! Just as he was setting the atmosphere for a hot kiss to celebrate their reunion!
