The smell of weed, sweaty teens and alcohol instantly filled my nose as soon as we walked in the house, our feet already feeling the bass from the music as soon as we set foot on the tiled floors. Couples were making out on the staircase, some were dancing in a berserk manner, some were jamming out to the music playing in the back round and some were calmly sitting down on the tables, couches and on the floor holding different varieties of alcohol.
"I don't think this is a good idea, Bree" I said and stopped walking, grabbing Bree's hand to stop her from her tracks. "I think I'm gonna go home" I shouted through the booming music.
"Hey, it's gonna be okay" she pulled me towards the crowd and she started bopping her head up and down while looking at me. "Let's just take advantage of tonight and drink all the free alcohol" she said, convincing me that it's gonna be fun. I shrugged and pulled her to the kitchen where all the alcohol is and grabbed a bottle of beer.
"Where's your boyfriend?" I asked Bree who was prepping two shots of tequila for the both of us. "Go text him and tell him we're here" I said and helped her by putting salt on the rim of the shot glasses. "Just so I can be at ease". I don't trust anyone here, I only know Bree and I don't even know who the host is or who invited us. I'm feeling kinda anxious.
"We're gonna be fine, Zoe" she said, giving me the shot glass. We clinked our glasses and took the shot. "Let's get shitfaced tonight" she said enthusiastically and passed me another shot.
After a couple of rounds with Bree, we were starting to feel a little buzzed from the tequila and the jungle juice and decided to give ourselves a little tour of this gigantic house. We ran into couples doing their magic in the bedrooms and even in the bathrooms, we even saw people sleeping in the hallways and people vomiting everywhere. We found an empty room and we decided to go inside.
"Oh there's a balcony" Bree said, walking to the french doors and opening it causing the air to whoosh in. I was a little tipsy so I joined Bree at the veranda to take a breather. We saw the view of the backyard, people were swimming in the pool, some were standing near the stack of pallets that was lit into a bonfire and some were dancing. "This place is packed, it looks like the whole population of the island came" Bree said, taking a sip of her jungle juice.
"Yeah, this house party is insane" I laughed and leaned on the railing. "Honestly, this isn't as bad as I thought" I said.
"I told you, this party will be alright" she said.
"Hey" someone called out to us. Our heads turned to where the voice was coming from and saw the golf dude sitting on the roof, shirtless with a red cup in his hand. "I never thought you guys actually came" he stood up and walked towards us carefully. Bree smiled and turned to him. "You didn't call" he jumped over the railing and smiled at us.
"Sorry, I never got to formally introduce myself" he dusted his free hand on his shorts and extended his hands to us. "I'm Topper" he said.
"Bree and this is-" Bree said but got cut off.
"Zoe, I know" he shook both of our hands and chuckled. I looked at him and raised my eyebrows at him. "Bree already told me awhile ago at the golf course"
After a couple of minutes, I got bored and decided to leave Topper and Bree alone and get a drink downstairs. They were the only ones talking and my throat started to feel a little dry so I needed to rehydrate. I walked downstairs and pushed through the pack of people on the dancefloor.
Once I reached the kitchen, I grabbed a red cup and filled it with ice and jungle juice. I leaned on the kitchen counter and watched the sweaty teens rub against each other then jammed to Travis Scott's songs that was playing loudly on the speakers. "Hey" a random dude walks up to me. His hair was long, he had on a navy blue shirt and khaki shorts. His face was red and his lips were stained hot pink from the jungle juice. "You look lonely" he lowered his face to mine and said, his hot breath hitting my face.
