Beep beep beep! There goes my alarm clock. I start getting ready for my first day of high school. I get out my white sneakers, my khaki caprees, and a shirt that says "Home is where the cat is". What can I say? I'm your typical nerd. Sleep all night and study all day. I go to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I take my headgear off. Thank goodness that I only have to wear that at night. Although I still have braces. I braid my dark chestnut hair into a ponytail that swings down my back and I put in a purple barret to hold back the loose strands. I then slip my purple glasses on over my crystal blue eyes. They may be the only redeeming thing about my face. I sighed. I really did not want to go to school today even if it was a Friday.
I walk down the stairs for breakfast. "Good morning, Ash. How did you sleep?" My loving mother asks. "Fine" I mumble. After I finish my oatmeal, I was about to walk out to the bus stop when my mom stops me. "Put a coat on, it's kind of chilly" I groan and then trudge upstairs to grab a sweater. It's purple and fuzzy with small pink flowers and it buttons up in the front. I then walk out the door to the bus. As soon as I walk out I realize how warm it is. Maybe mom was wrong. I stuff the sweater in my bag. Then I see her. Oblivious to the dress code she wore high waisted jean shorts, and a black crop top that had a white hand on it with an eye on the hand. I liked it except I would never wear it. I knew she would be in the popular crowd by the end of the day. But her smile made me want to talk to her. She looked so happy and open to conversation.
After we got to school, I was standing in the hallway opening my locker when she walked by. She glanced at me for only a moment. I huffed, angry at myself. Why did I have to be like this? I asked my self. I then went to my usual table all alone in the lunchroom. Lunch times go by seniority except backwards. So us freshmen ate first which was great so there were no messy tables when we walked in.
Then the most extroidinary thing happened. She came to sit at my table. "Hi! I'm Ansley, I'm new. Can I ask you a question?" She said in a excited manner. "What?" "Do you always dress like that? With no makeup or anything?" "Um yeah." She looked at me suprised. "Here's my number, I'm going to call you later. I'm going to give you a makeover." I almost smiled. This is what I've been waiting for. After I exchanged my phone number with her, she jumped up and waived goodbye before walking over to the popular kids lunch table.
I was sitting at home, reviewing my new schedule when my phone that I barely use rang. It was Ansley. "Do you want to come over? We need to get started. You can just sleep over since it's not a school night." She said quickly. "Umm sure. I'll go ask my mom. What's your address?" "1673 Mane Way" that was down the street from my house. I went down stairs and asked my mom if I could go spend the night with Ansley. She basically packed my bag for me. "I'm so happy for you! I'm glad you made a new friend!" "Thanks mom but calm down".
In 20 minutes I was out the door. Was this a mistake I asked my self while I rode my bike to her house. I hope it isn't.
