Venom

Chapter 4

I'm awoken to the sound of birds squawking and the salty smell of fish. I stand up looking for Lee but I can't seem to find him anywhere. Maybe his been captured, maybe he's dead. No, I'm over reacting. I walk out of the under grove and the sent of fish grows stronger. I decide to follow my nose and see where it takes me. I walk through a dozen berry bushes and eat some while walking. The smell of fish is so strong now I can almost taste the putrid thing. I decide to take a left turn where there are practically no trees but instead I find a giant lake, or pond, whatever you want to call it. I walk over hoping the water is clean enough to drink or even have a bath, and I'm right, it's practically crystal clear. I'm so amazed that I've almost forgotten about the fish. I walk around the pond and that's were I see Lee.
'Hey Lee' I shout.
'Oh, hey' he responds.
'What's up'?
'Umm, what are you doing' I ask whilst walking towards him.
'I caught a fish' he says with a grin.
'Are you serious!'
I practically run over to him. I'm really excited because I've eaten nothing but berries and tuna for the past week. Lee is sitting on a small wooden log whilst cooking the whopper of a fish over a fire.
'How did you find a fish that size'? I ask curiously.
'Oh I didn't find him, he found me. You see I was having a look around for some berries and shit and that's when I found this lake. I went in the lake and washed my self but while I was doing that this baby snuck up on me and bit me on my leg' he points to the red mark below his knee cap.
'Ouch' I say whilst trying not to laugh.
'So how did you catch him? I'm assuming he didn't just come up to you and say please cook me and kill me because I'm a lonely fish with no friends'.
'Getting a bit sarcastic there Riley' he says with a sour tone.
'Well actually it's kinda weird, after he bit me he became really energetic and...'
'Wait why are you saying he? It could be a she, I'm just saying we killed it, the least we could do is show some respect' I say whilst interrupting Lee.
'I swear to the American soldiers if you don't shut up Riley I will... Uhhhh.... Hurt you... Yeah I will hurt you'.
I just stare at him and cough loser under my breath.
For a moment none of us say a word, we just stand in silence.
'So, uhh, let's eat' I say whilst grabbing the fish.
Just as I'm about to take a bite, the fish instantly opens its eye.
'What they flying firetruck' I scream, dropping the fish on the ground.
Lee and I stare at the fish which now seems to be having a seizure.
It frantically flails on the ground swaying from side to side literally flopping like a dead fish. But how is it still alive ? Lee and I take a step back.
'Riley what the hell did you do?'.
'I didn't do anything' I yell.
The fish now starts changing colour into a shade of lime green.
'What the fu...'
Before I can finish my sentence the fish instantly changes back to its original milky white colour and flops itself into the lake and swims away.
'What the hell just happened' Lee asks me like I'm supposed to know how a fish just resurrected it self. I'm shocked, speechless, I literally just saw a fish come back from the dead.
'I don't think we should drink the water in that lake anymore' I say.
'I still have a few bottles of water left so we should be good for a while'.
'Who cares about the water, what the hell just happened to that fish!' Lee screams at me again.
'Lee, I don't know what happened but we should probably get a move on, the soldiers could be here any minute'.
He nods and starts walking back to the under grove.
I start to follow him but then realise I am unable to move.
My ears start ringing, I see fire everywhere. Lee has also fallen to the ground. What the hell is happening. I try to get up but my only leg I have is throbbing in pain. I've lost my crutches some how. So I just lay there, on the ground, helpless. I start to think that maybe I've been bitten by a venom brush. But there are no memories coming to me. I'm so confused, but that's when my ears come back to their senses. And I am able to hear. But what my ears are telling me must be wrong. Because I hear gunshots.
