'Run! Don't look back !'
The words echo through my mind. How did this once perfect world turn into this. I feel a shove in my back, I close my eyes desperately trying to ignore it. Our world is a war zone now. There is no such thing as safe. I open my eyes only to find that I am in a jungle with a teenager. I know who he is. He is my older brother.
'What the hell are you doing ?' Lee yelled at me. 'You could've been killed'.
'How did all this happen?' I mutter. 'Why are our countries at war?' Silence filled the air.
'Riley we've discussed this, I don't know why or how it happened, but it did ok, and we have to survive'.
'Why!' I scream. 'What's the point of surviving'?
Lee looks at me with disappointment and I instantly know that it's time to stop talking and get a move on before they find us. By they I mean the American Soldiers who invaded Australia. They have been given orders to kill every Australian. Lee and I have been hiding out in the jungle for about a week now but we both know that's it's only a matter of time before they find us. Lee signals me to get up and start moving. Just as I'm about to stand I feel a slight pinch in my leg. I ignore it but then I feel a burning pain. I loose feeling in my left leg and fall to the ground. Lee starts screaming my name, then everything goes black.I see my mother in a patch of lime green flowers, just standing there peacefully sipping on a glass of lemonade. Her chocolate brown hair sways in the wind while her sea green eyes stay glued to mine. I try to shout her name, but my words disappear with the wind. Behind her 3 soldiers march, armed with guns in their hands. They aim at her.
'Mum!' I scream whilst trying to run to her, but my legs are stuck in quick sand. The men fire their guns.
'No!' I cry. 'Stop, stop!'
My mum falls to the ground, blood trickling down her face. I scream at the men but they disappear into thin air. The sand is now at my waist, tears roll down my eyes as I have just seen my mother been killed again ! How could I have not known, this isn't real. This is a memory. The sand rises up to my neck, I whisper my mums name one last time before I am waken back into reality.'Wake up! Riley, wake up!'
My eyes adjust to the harsh sunlight. I faintly remember what happened before my memory. I remember a burning pain, then hitting the ground and that's it. Lee approaches me and I ask him how long I was out.
'10 minutes' he replied.
I could've sworn that my memory felt like it was going on for hours. Lee starts muttering, I ask him what's wrong.
'Riley, I don't exactly know how to say this, but, you were bitten by a venom brush'. Venom brushes are small insects that are extremely poisonous and make you remember your worst fear. That explains my memory.
'Did you get the poison out?' I ask.
'Um, sort of' he says nervously,
That's when I see the bloody axe in his hand. I look down and I freeze in fear, my whole body goes numb. I try to stand up but I can't. My leg has been cut off.
