Cw: alludes to physical abuse

"E-Eden don't you love Mama?" A familiar voice croaked, desperation leaking from the sound. I felt someone shaking my shoulder, making me open my eyes. Another pair of eyes locked with my own, filled to the brim with tears and puffy. "O-of course, Mom!" I squeaked out.

My voice didn't sound right, it was like how I sounded as a young kid. "Then you won't make Papa angry at Mama again, right? No one wants that," She said hurriedly, her hands tightening to a bruising grip.

My mothers voice wavered as she dug her nails into my skin. "Your mom just wants what is best for you, and it would be wrong to pay that kindness by going to someone and complaining, correct? When Papa gets angry for you, it can hurt Mama."

My pupils turned to pinpricks as I saw the large bruise crawling up my mothers arm. Even though her tight grip made me want to cry, I stayed silent. "I pinky promise, I won't cause any trouble."

...

I woke up in a cold sweat to the full moon shining outside. Laying restless on my bed, I decided to get up since I wasn't going to sleep anytime soon. Ever since I came back from the exam, I haven't been able to get a wink of sleep for the past few days. I already had difficulty sleeping anyways so the precious few hours of sleep I'd usually get were stripped away.

Walking to my TV, I sat on the couch, huddling up in a blanket. Yawning loudly, I switched my tv to the news, knowing that something interesting was probably happening somewhere. When the news came on, I was instantly greeted by a loud news broadcaster. "Pro hero Ground Zero is on the scene. The police have surrounded the perimeter where the assailants are believed to have escaped to." I leaned in, knowing that it must've been something big if Ground Zero was involved.

My eyes widened as an image of Escapist and Dead Weight were put onto the screen, the news broadcaster describing physical traits and how dangerous these villains were. I knew about these villains very well, and by hearing their names come up, I knew exactly what was going to happen next.

There was a consistent pattern with them recently. It was common knowledge that they followed a villain called Normalcy. So usually, when these guys showed up like this, someone was going to be made as an example for their cause.

The screen shifted to live footage that was happening. There were people being carried out of a warehouse in gurneys and police making a barrier for news and onlookers.

Ground Zero walked out of the warehouse with his well known grimace and pushed through the crowd in a rage. What a big surprise; the escapist escaped. When Ground Zero entered the warehouse, they were already gone, leaving a trail of students training to be heros unconscious and quirkless. They had gone missing this morning and now here they are, their chances of becoming heroes taken from them. Maybe it was for the better though, after all, there was a high mortality rate as a hero that is a hard thing to swallow for most parents.

I clicked off the tv, suddenly not in the mood to watch the news. Instead, I walked over to my small kitchen with my blanket draped over my shoulders. Humming, I tried to remember exactly how Ito showed me how to make his special tea. It was quiet and in a way I didn't exactly like. I'd shy away from the word lonely, but that's exactly how it felt.

For some reason, my dream slipped from the dark parts of my mind that I didn't want

to remember. I clenched my hand tightly around my little mug I had picked up. Then I heard something that I forced into the farest part of my brain.

The cup I had in my hand shattered on the floor as I heard that all too familiar scream. I covered my mouth with my hands as I crumbled to the ground in a shaking heap.
