"Remember they aren't your friends, they're competition and nothing more."
"Of course."

It was very quiet as I walked the streets and alleyways alone. My slick, almost black tail swishing behind me as I moved along. Today the entrance exams at UA started and since it was quite a bit away I had to walk there early. What an embarrassment it would be to go in late after all this training and preparation for today. No, I simply couldn't let that happen.
Putting on my wireless earphones I switched to some music on my phone to make my stroll to school less quiet and off putting. I decided to put on an artist named Mother Mother and let my tail sway with the music.
My mind wandered to what my older siblings had said as I got myself ready. They fretted non stop about my outfit and if it was right for the entrance exams. Thankfully we knew an incredibly talented fitter that made my outfit both pleasing to look at and non restrictive for battle.
Remembering the advice they gave me about always being ready and aware of everything, I quickened my pace.
They could be... aggressively encouraging at times. Unconsciously, I touched one of the scars on my neck that was covered by my choker. I shook my head, sighing. But it paid off; I had thought through this day many times and prepared for it extensively. I couldn't let all our efforts go to waste.
"Hey! It's Maltova! Whatzup? How things looking with everyone?" A man with slicked back blond hair, many tattoos, and intimidating demeanor shouted from the other side of the road. Taking out my earphones it took me a second to make out what he had said to me through my music... now that I thought of it he seemed familiar. Trying to think of where I'd seen him, I realized I knew him superficially from passing introductions from my family. I may not have known him too well, but he was close enough to my family to be considered a family friend. "Not much, everybody is doing alright. Though they still say you should clean yourself up to not look like a street thug." I replied.
Scoffing he looked me up and down, "and you're still as formal as ever. You know if you ever want to have style just come to me." He said popping off his leather jacket with pride. Looking down, I made sure my dress pants, warm colored button up shirt, and formal suit jacket looked right. Chuckling, I put my earphones back in and continued on my way, "in your dreams." With that he flipped me off as I walked on my way to UA.

The entrance of the school loomed over me as I stood there. I studied it closely, letting myself take a deep breath. My tail flung around back and forth in anticipation. My mind came back to reality when the sound of people walking and chatting around started to become prominent.
There were kids flooding into the school, some were with family waving and shouting words of encouragement. Others were chatting with peers that they seemed to know. A part of me wished that my family could be here now but I pushed that thought down.
Steadying myself, I dusted off my clothing and walked in.

Hiya! I hope you enjoyed the first chapter I know it was very short. This is my first story so it may not be the best. If you have any criticism I'd love to hear it! I'd also like to put a reference of all of the characters so you have a better idea of what they look like. (Keep in mind their designs might change and all the art in this story are mine)
