I Was Murdered, Chapter two: Requests and daughters

Grey Court, South Carolina

25th of May, 2010

“... The bodies of a young couple, a male and a female, were found. These two, Robert Jason and Missy Holden were reported missing two days ago when they went on a date and never came back from it. Today a passing by jogger found their bodies and reported them immediately. According to the locals, the two were found in very severe conditions. The cause of death was loss of blood for both and that was due to the many stabs that were found on both of their bodies. It was another crime added to the list of homicides that had been taking place for the last few years. Grey has struck again_”

The Television screen went black.

Thirty-eight, she thought. She pulled a deep breath and removed her eyes from the black screen and with shaking hands she placed the controller back down on the kitchen table.

That week couldn’t get any worse.

Thirty-five year old Elisa Chance pulled another tissue from the box beside her and wiped her nose, crunching the thin piece of paper into her hand. She felt new tears trying to escape her eyes and she closed them tight. She was surprised that she still had more to shed after crying for almost the whole week.

The death of her father was so much to take in.

Greg Grayson died from a stroke while he and her mother were visiting some relatives back in New York. The doctors said that the trip tired him out and that his body was too weak. Jennifer Grayson did not come back to Grey court, South Carolina but decided to stay there at her sister’s house. She told her daughter on the phone that she couldn’t come back to her house with her husband not being there.

Elisa on the other hand was devastated. She used to adore her father. He was her best friend and the man she loved the most in her life and what was more heartbreaking was that she couldn’t even go to his funeral that took place in New York, where he was originally from. Tom couldn’t take her because the situation in here was in its worst condition and being a police-officer, he had to stay and he didn’t want her to go alone.

“Elisa, calm down.” She gasped as she felt the touch of her husband that she didn’t know was standing behind her and her nostrils flared. “Shh, it’s me.” He rubbed his hands down her arms and then wrapped his arms around her torso.

“I didn’t hear you come in.” She mumbled, sighing as she looked down at her hands still crushing the tissue paper.

“I did not knock.” He confirmed, tightening his hold around her upper body and bringing her closer to his chest. “Please Elisa, stop crying. It hurts me to see you like this.” He whispered into her ear, the sharp short hairs of his beard scraped the side of her face.

“You know what I want and you know why I am crying, Tom.” She retorted back, her voice unstable.

“Elisa...” He started but she interrupted him immediately.

“Tom, my mother needs me. I need to stay with her, help her through this. All that I am asking is a few days only. I really need to be beside her through this, and I really need to visit my father’s grave. Why can’t you comprehend my need?” She rushed her words out of her mouth, the volume of her voice rising with every word.

He sighed, his breath fanning her face, before he pulled his arms away and crossed to the other side of the table so they were face to face. “Elisa, I told you we can’t go to New York. The police force in all of South Carolina is on alert and they can’t handle the absence of anyone. You need to understand that the situation is severely dangerous and I can’t leave my duties behind, even for one day.” He said again what he was drilling into her for the past week.
